Sudarsan Pattnaik, the renowned sand artist, depicted the message of Earth Hour 2023 through his sand art as Goodwill Ambassador for Earth Hour India 2023. He created a huge sand artwork at Puri Beach in Orissa using more than 150 light bulbs to celebrate sustainability and raise awareness of climate change.

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to encourage individuals, communities and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on the last Saturday of March as a symbol of commitment to the planet. It first started in Sydney, Australia in 2007

LOL! This "artist" buys 150 lights which enriches, the "evil" light manufacturere, to make a "feel good" point.

Well any way, "earth Hour" is 10:30 CDT. I will be watching Star Trek

Honestly earth hour is a good idea. It will remind people that we need electricity.

Thanks for the reminder about “earth hour.” Tonight, I will turn on every light in my house for those 60 minutes, just like I do every year.

Nice to learn India is rich enough to be able to support a Sudarsan Pattnaik.

Honestly earth hour is a good idea. It will remind people that we need electricity.

Except for motor vehicles.

Like the country song says,

"Every light in the house is on
The backyard's bright as the crack of dawn
The front walk looks like runway lights
It's kinda like noon in the dead of night..."

That'll be our place.

Triggered a memory of a Fantastic Universe issue I had in 1957. I believe it was also on a calendar a long time later.

wouldn’t his art be more “sustainable” if instead of 150 light bulbs, it had zero?

All modern motor vehicles use electricity.

Of course they do, but what made modern prosperity happen?

It was the internal combustion engine, not some pipe dream of electric vehicles.

Sand art? Get real. Real art lasts for more than one day. Sustainability for sand? The deserts have you covered.

I’m going to go outside and use the burn-out mode in my new mustang.

A ridiculous feature on a car. It seems appropriate timing to use it.

Many will say the light bulb ;-)

It allowed factories to work through the night.

Well we agree electricity is important for prosperity.

The left only wants electricity to come from solar or wind.

I'm for all sources, coal, natural gas, nuclear.

Drill baby, drill.
