If I was hiring a candidate would lose points for visible and excessive tattoos & piercings, especially on a pretty girl (yes I'm a sexist pig). I would wonder if their "personal preferences" would affect their work ethics.

I also get further amazed at how the tattooing/piercing culture has grown, it is not uncommon to see middle aged people with tattoos

The thing about tattoos.... before the latest “craze” Those who had them had them for a reason. Tattoos were reminders of things that happened, people you wanted to remember, things you had done or place you had been. Tats were reminders/memories made into art and placed on your body. Now days not so much. And piercings don't get me started on them.... there are places in the world where a nose ring means you are “owned” as in a piece of property... I wont say exactly where but its pretty sandy....

All that crap in excess says 3 things to me:

1.Suffering from a lot of unresolved trauma

2. A follower

3. Probably some drug use

As an employer, all things I would rather not deal with.

In my 30+ years as an employer, I had only one staff member with visible tats. and he was a US Navy vet.

Physical presence matters, cupcake. Like with a receptionist in an office.

Why would anyone want a troll facing the public?

however, it does depend upon the tatts. If a little flower or “Mom”, fine. All others must be covered up.

no tattoos on face or neck was the only rule. if piercings are confined to nose or ear, and not excessive, then OK. Some people need to chill,

It used to be that “tat” ink had a metal-based pigment in them. I don’t know if that’s still true. Assuming it is an MRI would be quite an interesting experience for them.

A WW2 sailor pointed to the blob on his arm that was once a tattoo.
The sailor said don’t make this mistake

‘How Does This Affect My Ability To Make Coffee?’

You’re in a service business and people don’t want to look at you.

It’s a sign of antisocial tendencies and possible personality disorder, and it’s a sign that is clear enough for everyone to understand subconsciously.

That might be okay if she were in a back room away from the public making the coffees, but if she has any interaction with the customers, then it’s relevant.

Nose rings make the wearer look like mucous is running out their nose. My first thought is always this person needs a tissue. Am I hungry after that?
There is a local restaurant here with a rather pretentious name, opened a year or so ago. We tried it one night. The place has an industrial vibe, an immediate turn off. The walls are painted baby poop green. The music was your standard urban crap. But the real turnoff was our server. He had too many piercings to count, including 1 inch in diameter discs in his earlobes, multiple nose rings, lip rings, eyebrow rings, rings circling his ears. He was nice enough, but his appearance was so repulsive we finished our meal quickly, and never went back.
Yes, the staff’s appearance matters. If the customer thinks you need to wipe your nose, your coffee brewing abilities don’t matter.

I got my only tattoo at age 73 soon after my wife Joy passed away, it’s a small red heart on my left fore arm with her name in it.
