It’s more of a constraint than an enhancement. Webb sees mostly in the infrared, which we cannot of course. In order to see what Webb sees, the image must be altered by shifting the wavelengths higher into visible range. That doesn’t mean it’s fake. For distant galaxies which Webb was designed to see, it’s actually more realistic because that corrects for cosmic red-shifting.
Our eyes are very limited in terms of how much of the light spectrum we can see. Manipulations like this are necessary to actually “see” what’s really there.
Told a date once when we went to an observatory “I’d love to see Uranus up close”. She literally Dragged me home with her! Wish I’d of married her.
That’s my whole point. Then I have to explain to non-scientific types that it is manipulated with light outside the human visible spectrum, and wouldn’t look like that to their eyes. At least put two pics side by side.
