A Kentucky man is accused of using a cattle prod on his own children. Deputies said he did it to “discipline” them, but now defendant Anthony L. Jones, 32, faces four counts of criminal abuse in the third degree of a child 12 or under, and one count of criminal abuse in the third degree.
“The perpetrator used an electric cattle prod multiple times on his two children for discipline,” deputies wrote in documents. “Both children were given a forensic interview at the CVAC center and both confirmed this. The perp used the cattle prod to shock the victims and threatened them with it on several occasions.”
Jones was arrested on Friday at approximately 10:15 a.m.
“The arrest occurred off Littontown Road, approximately 4 miles north of London following an investigation conducted by Deputy Poynter,” the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook. “Following an earlier investigation while assisting DCBS, Deputy Poynter obtained two complaint warrants of arrest. The first complaint warrant of arrest charged four counts of criminal abuse – third-degree – child 12 or under. Allegedly, the accused used an electric cattle prod multiple times on two children for discipline. The second complaint warrant of arrest charged one count of criminal abuse – third-degree.”
Jones was booked into the Laurel County Correctional Center. He pleaded not guilty at an arraignment on Monday, and he is scheduled for a pretrial conference to take place May 2. He has no attorney of record.

“Is it worse than holding the spark plug wire on a mower when your buddy pulls the rope ?”
That is exactly what it feels like. Because that is basically what it is.
Yeah, I got the message that day. In today’s world, CPS would show up and I would be in foster care.
It just wasn’t humorous to me.
“FReepers how dangerous is a cattle prod on a child 12 and under?”
Depends on the ampere rating
I kept asking my wife to get one for me for Christmas, as the only way to get the kids to do their homework.
She never did. The kids did ok regardless.
“Depends on the ampere rating”
Yep. There’s lots of different ones on the market. Some are only good for intimidation. Others are made to jolt 2000 pound cattle.
Got er from a magneto on a JD two banger one time.
That was far worse than any electric fencer.
Just about the time I tried to let go it would grab me again...until I ended up on the ground.
My dad would have sent me packing. Old school works.
Having to cut your own twig switch branch. That hurt more than the belt.
Yeah.
Dad had one he used on cows. Had a mean boar he applied it to. The boar just turned around looking for the thing that shocked him. He was ready to eat it up.
White trash
Got my brothers one of those electric fly swatters. My brother’s all took turn touching the wire meshing too see what it felt like. Scary sound but not that much of a shock.
the danger is almost exclusively psychological
“Children are not cattle”
Allow me to introduce you to America’s public school system...
Glad he was ok from that.
As an electrician, I almost usually try to avoid involuntary shocks. That’s also why you have apprentices. They’re like the new private in the infantry and when you don’t know where the minefield is, so you tell private Pile to take a bound. heh.
Apologies to all apprentices everywhere. I was simply trying to turn you into men.
You’re just going to have to toughen up. Next time stand in the rain and do it, it’ll build tolerance faster.
I eat 115VAC shocks for breakfast.
“White trash”
Ouch! I feel personally attacked! heh.
There’s a lot of that these days sadly too.
I’ve avoided it actually. I got so good at this work that I’ve been forced to take up ranching.
That’s true. After getting hit by 450VAC on a Destroyer I find that I had a couple of shocks at 117V house power. Unpleasant but not as awful as before. Still very dangerous though. You don’t want to get complacent around electricity.
