We’ve likely seen this, sometime in our lives, but if something is not specifically known to be causing it in a loved one, please consider it is a sign of possible severe physical distress, and get them looked at by a doctor.

Been scratchin my head over this one.
My BMI is high.
I have TypeII diabetes.
High blood pressure among other things.
my doctors are trying to get me to lose weight.
I am in line for Ozempic treatment for diabetes.
It is also known for weight loss.
I guess I need to have a discussion about weight loss first.

I wonder if you have heavy weight loss in your 50’s or 60’s and are able to maintain a healthy weight would you live longer? There’s a helluva lot of fat people waiting for major health problems if they don’t have them already.

I take it then that this is not at all associated with intentional weight loss from improved diet and exercise?

In my annual visits with my doctor, I occasionally mention that I consider myself to be about fifteen pounds over my normal mid-life weight. I used to weigh 185 pounds for years, but now at 78, I hover around 200. My doctor’s response has always been, “Oh, it’s not a problem because you need to carry a little reserve at your age.” I’m beginning to understand what he means by that remark.

A complete no brainer. People who are getting seriously ill don’t want to eat as much. So they lose weight. And if cancer is growing that’s gonna consume more calories. If they have stomach cancer or gastrointestinal cancers that’s gonna be obvious. At least the researchers REALLY CEMENTED this notion down. Cutting edge research.

Using men with stable weight as a control, men with a 5% to 10% weight loss had a 33% higher risk of all-cause mortality, and those with more than a 10% decrease in body weight had a 289% higher risk. Whoa! Talk about counterintuitive...
