I think the uptick on both firearmss and auto that started in ~2013 is likely related to the big uptick in social media. What I don’t see on the chart is alot of other accident types outside auto, firearm, fire and drowning.
Note that drugs jumped significantly after the lockdowns as well.
Car accidents, accidents, drugs, etc a lot more than guns.

They lump all causes together, so it will include suicides, accidents, criminal homicides and also lawful defensive uses. None of these categories amounts to a valid reason to violate a Constitutional right, but it is galling to try to do so because of lockdown-related suicides and catch-and-release gang violence, and is especially galling to try to do so because of lawful defensive uses, which amount to a reason to expand rather than curtail gun ownership.
I work with a younger pharmacist who is anti-gun. I explained to her that, especially with my poor health, there is no other equalizer should a man decide he wants to follow me to my car or break into my home for nefarious purposes, and that by nature, criminals don’t care about laws. They will 3D print them, buy them on the black market, steal them, and raid police buildings which were evacuated due to rioting should things get as bad as 2020 again. I explained how all proposed bans and gun laws wouldn’t have stopped ANY of the last few shootings to make national news, too.
I left her confused.

14-19 year old children, yes possibly. Children between 12 months and 14 largely don’t die except by accidents like drownings and car crashes.
