Nordstrom shuts down BOTH stores in crime-ridden San Francisco - as Target locks entire product range behind security glass and Whole Foods store is shuttered

Nordstrom has announced it is closing all of its San Francisco stores, blaming the 'changed dynamics' of the city which has seen numerous major chains turn-tail in the face of soaring crime.

The retailer told employees it would not be renewing its leases at the Westfield Mall or at the Nordstrom Rack across the street. The mall location will shutter at the end of August, and the Rack store will remain open until July 1, according to the Washington Post.

Nordstrom chief stores officer Jamie Nordstrom blamed the state of San Francisco in recent years for reducing foot traffic 'and our ability to operate successfully.'

Westfield Mall said in a statement to the Washington Post that the move was brought on by the 'deteriorating situation in downtown San Francisco' which has left customers and staff unsafe.

Rampant crime in downtown San Francisco has left numerous retailers throwing up their hands and moving out. In April, Whole Foods announced it was closing its locations, while Anthropologie and Office Depot have also left. Remaining stores like Target have been reduced to locking up their entire stock behind glass to deter shoplifters.

'Decisions like this are never easy, and this one has been especially difficult,' wrote Nordstrom in his email.

'But as many of you know, the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully.'

Westfield Mall was much more blunt in its statement to the Washington Post, pointing directly to rising crime running business out of town, which it referred to as 'unsafe conditions for customers, retailers, and employees.'

The mall said 'these significant issues are preventing an economic recovery of the area.'

Not to worry. The ChiComs can come in with their own police force to clean up the city. I hear there was once a great naval base nearby that only needs minor refurbishing.

Well, it’s more economical to just empty the trucks in the parking lot. Cut out the overhead of clerks putting the stuff inside on the shelves and all.

This is such a good lesson in what San Francisco liberalism leads to ... a dysfunctional city.

They’re never going to come where I live.

Last month I went to Lowe's to purchase some wire to make an end fed half wave antenna. The shelves were wide open and easy to shop for wire gauge, solid/stranded, length and price. Last weekend, I went in search of 18 AWG or 20 AWG stranded for a longer antenna. There are cages over all of the wire spools. We do have a fair incidence of property crime in the area from drug users. I was still able to read the packages and remove a spool if desired. Higher value stuff goes in glass cases with locked doors. Pocatello/Chubbuck, ID.

I was just through that area - in a moving car behind locked doors...

The Whole Foods closed “abruptly” after being shoplifted to death.

The streets in that area look like a horror show - mentally ill ranting and raving right in the middle of the street, drug addled homeless shooting up right on the sidewalks or slumped against the buildings. Human feces and needles strewn everywhere.

Entire area reeks of urine. I suspect there won’t be a business left in a few months - I wouldn’t deign to shop - let alone walk - in that area.

A lot of the needles are washing up on the shoreline where I walk my dogs - there was a beach clean-up going on - a man came over and told me to watch my dogs around the debris b/c he’d already picked up six needles just that morning (showed them to me) - and had picked up 15 the day before.
