My 85 year old Mom: “I’m coming out to the farm, today. I’ll bring Subs!”
She would eat Subs every day of her life if she could; I’ll be sure to tell her about this, though she’s MAD at Subway because they don’t honor coupons anymore, LOL!

I’ve tried “subs” in every part the country. None compares to a Philly sub.

Ours does.
Must be the local franchisee decision.
That’s a sure sign of financial problems.
I’d find a new sub shop, like Jersey Mike’s or Firehouse......................

In Connecticut, the old-school name is "grinder". That said, CT is one of several claimants to the invention of the word "submarine sandwich", coming from Groton and the Electric Boat Company area.
I just had a hot sausage and pepper grinder yesterday for lunch. A day early. Delicious.

SHe is likely on a budget (hence the attachment to coupons), and Mike's and Firehouse are both expensive and mediocre.

I’ve never figured out ‘grinder’. The others are self-explanatory. See keywords. Add some more if you know any...........

I’ve heard a Sub referred to as a “Hero” before.

Torpedo and Po'Boy (Louisiana) come to mind.

In 1912, the President of Mexico visited England for a diplomatic meeting...While there, he ate a sandwich with a condiment on it he had never tasted...
He loved it....He loved it so much, he ordered 1000 cases of the condiment to be shipped to his country...he wanted his people to be able to taste it...
On the way over, the ship carrying the condiment, which was mayonnaise, hit an iceberg and sank...It was the Titanic!!!!
The President felt so bad, he declared a holiday....
SINKO DE MAYO.....

Hoagie Day should only be a local holiday. It’s not a national thing, just like a cheese steak isn’t a national thing. A better name would be National Sandwich with a Long Roll Day.
