“Write it. Shoot it. Publish it. Crochet it, Sauté it, whatever. MAKE.” ~ Joss Whedon

The Monthly Create, Make and Share Thread is a monthly gathering of people that love to create and make. From yarn (crochet, knitting), fabric (sewing, quilting), threads (embroidery, weaving), wood crafts, ceramics, artwork and anything else you create and would like to share, this is the place to do it. Sharing something you’ve created and/or made is pure joy...and we need joy in our lives!

From complete Newbies that are looking to start that first project, to experienced artists, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions or would like advice, there’s probably someone on the thread who would be able to help.

It is impossible to hijack the Monthly Create, Make and Share Thread. Knitting, crochet, sewing, quilting, weaving, general crafting, art, wood working, patterns, articles on any of these topics, or even your own writing. There is no telling where it will go, and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you’d like to be added to our Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a Month Ping List. We DO post to the thread during the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to other Create, Make and Share fans are welcomed any time.

You always find misplaced/lost craft supplies (or anything, really) a day or so after you’ve purchased and used a replacement.

Coq au vin. Made it. The trick is in the sauce. Chicken sautéed then what? Mix bacon(after boiling) with the sautéed mushrooms throw in some onions, rosemary, butter, flour, salt/pepper. Forget anything? Chicken broth of all things! The trick is in the process. Boneless thighs are better than breasts.

I can testify! I have WAY too many hooks - but always go back to my faves.

Beau also has a ZILLION cans of nails and screws in his workshop...and yet he can spend HOURS in the ‘Nails and Screws’ section of ANY Farm or Hardware store we venture into.

It’s a sickness with us, LOL! :)

Loving it! So far I have only crocheted cotton string bags for groceries and produce. Time for something a little more sexy, I think!

Nice topic. I’ve made so many different crocheted bags and purses over the years, baskets too. Even tiny purses for little 3 year old nieces. And when they got a little older. No patterns or pics, just always winged it. In the make it department I am working on old fashioned house dress from the 30’s or 40’s. I’ll be a demonstrator at a historical society event. Concentrating on textiles. I found a cotton shirt with a zipper in the back and a pinstripe sheet. Going to combine them to make a dress. Found them both in the thrift store for about 4.00 total.

I finished knitting the ‘Jenny’ shawl after some marathon knitting starting Friday afternoon before the Memorial Day Holiday, then all weekend plus Monday & Tuesday. I was fortunate it was raining from Sat. on so I couldn’t do anything outside. Whew. I still have to weave in ends & I am going to crochet slip stitch down the neck/shoulder edge to keep it from stretching out. I will post some pics soon.

My mom wore a poncho to church today that I made her some years ago. She was commenting it kept slipping off her shoulders - she’s worn it enough to stretch it out. The poncho is in Vanna’s Choice, deep red. I was looking around to see if anyone had it & it appears VC has been discontinued. Bummer, because I will never be able to match that color. I am thinking I will do a row of single crochet around the edge & take in 4-6 stitches (SC 2 tog) & then do a round of slip stitch. Black would look OK for the edging color, especially with the outfits she wears under the poncho. I will see if I have a picture of that as well - it’s really pretty.

Never made coq au vin, but doesn’t “vin” translate to “wine”? Is there no wine in it?

Haven’t created anything lately, other than Bible studies. But 25 years ago this month, I finished building a full-size (approx. 14’T by 38’L) steel t-rex skeleton. I made 10 more dino sculptures over the next 6 years.

I’ve been on FR for over 18 yrs and haven’t leaned to post photos. (I guess I’m tech lazy)

Finally got off my rear end and made new cushions with covers for the deck furniture. Included little straps that close with velcro, to hold them on to the metal furniture frames, so we don’t lose cushions in a wind storm. I am glad it is finally done, and felt good about how well I planned and purchased the right materials, but I don’t LOVE them. I used 2” thick “NuFoam” product, then made covers with square front corners. They are not optimally thick enough, but we rarely sit out there....

Also removed the too-short straps and made new straps that tie at the shoulders for two sundresses for 6 year old granddaughter. She’s on the thin side, so the tie straps will also allow flexibility to maybe wear them this summer and next.

Have TONS of fabric scraps I need to sort and store or get rid of... and was looking for the right shade of purple thread, realized I am in GREAT need of organizing and straightening all my supplies. Threads, bias tape, elastics, ribbons, a little bit of lace, interfacing.... you name it, I probably have it but can’t find it.

I have sewn more in the past couple years than for a long time before that, and seem like I have not been developing good storage habits. I have enough fabric and notions that I really should just sew up some things for the granddaughters, “just because”. My sister sent me two boxes of nice fabrics, many 2-3 yard pieces, last spring.

Seems like I have been in a bit of a rut/uninspired early this year, so hopefully the creativity is sneaking back in......

Thanks for running this thread every month! I love to read about what other FReepers are making.

Ain’t that the truth!

I’m so happy to discover there are people just like me (at least in certain regards!).

I want to try to find a similar pattern in a larger bag. I don’t use anything but my all-purpose backpack for daily stuff, but for church or special occasions, I want a nice bag.

So I’ll look for a pattern!

Thanks for this thread! It’s always amazing!

Oooo! I can't wait to see how that dress turns out! Score on the price. There's a site somewhere where a woman takes thrifted clothing and makes it into other garments. Really interesting!

I would really like to start wearing more prairie-style dresses out here on the farm. Just for kicks. Can't imagine them being all that practical when mucking out a stall or chasing the steer or mule when they escape. They do look cute with barn boots though, LOL!

However, I recently watched an episode of 'LHOTP' when Ma & Pa Ingalls were building their first log cabin home and she was chinking logs with an axe in a dress. ;)

And there's always THIS lady for inspiration:

‘coq au vin’ is literally ‘chicken in wine’

I’d like to make it, but I never seem to have ‘leftover’ wine in the house. ;)

I keep a gallon of cheap Burgundy around for those purposes. Learned the recipe on Julia Child’s show-60’s. Available with a Firestick.
