I've seen the movie and did not consider it blasphemous. It was not making fun of religion but of the Cecil B. DeMille-type Biblical and Roman movie extravaganzas like "The Ten Commandments," "Ben Hur," and others--the "swords and sandals" genre.

Of course to understand the joke with "Blessed are the cheesemakers" it helps to be familiar with the original Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount.

But I understand why some people find the movie offensive.

Read the article.

The blasphemy isn't Christianity. That was the old blasphemy. The new blasphemy is transgenderism.
