Treat Williams died unexpectedly Monday following a motorcycle accident in Vermont. He was 71.

“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off,” he said. “I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.”

Authorities stated that around 4:53 p.m., “a southbound 2008 Honda Element […] attempted to turn left into a parking lot.” The initial investigation detailed that the Element “stopped, signaled a left turn, and then turned into the path of a northbound 1986 Honda VT700c motorcycle operated by Williams.”

If you’re gonna ride a bike, you have to realize the risks involved. My family convinced me to get rid of mine four years ago. That and the fact that if I had crashed it I wouldn’t be playing golf for a long long time.
I knew him slightly. When he was preparing for his role as a Ranger Captain in “The Eagle Has Landed” he hung out with us in the 1/75th Ranger Battalion for a week or so.
Seemed an OK guy, and he could mostly keep up with us, although a bit mystified at some of the stuff we did.
I was not victim blaming jerk.
Classic cage-caused crash. One of the most frequent in the statistics. Would wish the driver to be charged, but probably won’t happen.
I’ve had cars pull out in front of me a few times...once was really close. You have to constantly watch for the idiots when you are riding. Some people just do not look for motorcycles.
I’d like to see airbags and seatbelts on motorcycles.
He played in some episodes of Blue Bloods alongside Tom Selleck, how sad. In the series, in the episodes he played, he ends up with a terminal illness.
He was in “Deep Rising” and he also played the father of Aron Ralston in “127 Hours”.

That was a good movie. Larry Hagman’s gungho character got shot through his helmet at point blank right between the eyes by a female German spy as he thought he was sneaking up on her.
I saw him perform in David Mamet’s Oleanna in 1993 when I was 17 years old. Great performance.
It’s simple, if a vehicle is set up to pull out of a driveway, parking lot, stop sign or they’re in left turn bay in opposing traffic, cover your brakes, slow slightly and don’t take your eyes off the dummy in the car/truck, and be ready. This alone would save lots of lives and for those at fault, avoid huge lawsuits.
It sounded like a harmless comment on the inherent risks of riding motorcycles.
The 1886 Honda Shadow 700 is a nice looking bike.
