Leonid & Friends on tour from Russia perform the Chicago hit “25 or 6 to 4”. Recorded live at The Wall Street Theater in Norwalk, Connecticut on June 14, 2023. Please leave your thoughts and comments and compare this performance to the original (or current) Chicago band.
Looks like they still have the Ukrainian dude. I thought I read that he signed up for the war.
I watched them live last year. They are a great band but that sound recording was just terrible. An I-Phone just does not cut it. They have the video feature down but their sound recording quality needs a lot of work.
Thanks for posting this video. I’m a huge fan of Leonid and Friends.
I just checked. They are only making one show in Texas this year. In The Woodlands. Too far away.
I saw Chicago three weeks ago in Kansas City. It was the third time I have seen them since 2017. They definitely do it much better than Leonoid.
There’s something to be said about the fact that there are still three original members of the band on the road making their music nightly.
Nope. New lead. Michael Puntov. serge Tiagnarando left the band.
We saw them in PA last week. They love America more than most Americans.
My opinion which is worth next to nothing -
The guitar solo was played correctly and in Kath’s style.
The singer has a great voice.
Alternately, the guitar tone was too bright.
The sax player was too forward. The trumpet is major voice. They should have stood in a row and played as one lung.
Not bad.
Thank you. Brought back kickass memories of my youth.
Agree. It was a live recording, those are always harder to get good sound.
Well, of course they do. They're Chicago.
Hence my comment about mics on bells of the horns.
agree
That song sucks, even the title makes no sense.
I get the appeal of Leonid & Friends but to me it’s knowing that Kath and Cetera and the others created their stuff out of thin air. Liking L&F is like having a real Rolex and a fake Rolex but you wear the fake Rolex.
The songwriter has been up all night trying to write a new song. He’s exhausted and it’s early morning, 3:35 or 3:34 a.m.
It’s a song about writers block and how hard it is to write a song.
Obviously many people like it since we’re still talking about it 54 years later.
"25 or 6 to 4" was written in the middle of the night by an insomniac Robert Lamm, with the title referencing the time of morning (25 or 26 minutes to 4am) that the composition was being finished.
Hard to believe but this song was banned in Singapore as the title was believed to be a drug reference.
Chicago had a slew of hits during much of the 1970s and into the 1980s.
This Russian band does a great rendition of this song and again, that female backup singer is riveting and steals the performance from the horn section.
Love these guys but they don’t get much past the Mississippi.
I used to think that. Being a musician (we opened for Steppenwolf, the James Gang, Savoy Brown, and the Who sat through our set at the Troubadour), I was snooty about “copy” bands.
But I’ve changed my views over the last years. These guys are great. Many people don’t write their own stuff (Elvis) yet are phenomenal. I love these guys and wish I could see them, but they don’t get west of the Mississippi much.
