LOL! First image that came to mind. How did you find it so fast.
When we were pups, we'd count the balls of fire which came from Roman candles. If they were short of what was advertised, we would take a firecracker, hang the fuse over the candle, light it and leave.
Once the fuse burned enough to drop the cracker into the tube, the small explosion would usually be followed by the last ball or two igniting and going off.
Don't recall how we figured that out as kids, but we did.

A friend of mine had been firing off a roman candle by holding it and pointing it away, like a thousand videos I’ve seen. This one blew up in his hand, like many do. He was okay but had a terrible wound on his hand about four inches long.
This type of injury blows gunpowder into the wound and is very hard to heal because of the infection.
Damn those Romans.

One of the links in the article was to a man who shot a firework off the top of his head last year, and it exploded into his skull revealing brain matter. Ugh!!!!

I still remember in school in the 1950s we always had an assembly in which they showed us films about fireworks and blasting cap injuries. Usually before the school year ended.
We knew well enough not to mess with fireworks that failed to explode properly.
