Moment lonely Bay Area man's elderly cat Tootie Pootie who was 'all he had' is mauled to death by pit bull which overpowered cowardly owners who then fled

A lonely California man has been left grieving after his cat was mauled to death by a pit bull which overpowered its owners - who then fled the grisly scene.

Tootie Pootie's devastated owner Chris Fowler said the ordeal was traumatizing - and is now demanding justice after the nine-year-old cat was ravaged by a dog on Magliocco Drive in San Jose.

Fowler let his cat out of his apartment to get some fresh air on Saturday afternoon when a man, girl, and large dog approached her on the street.

Footage showed the dog leap forward and overpower the girl who was holding its leash.

Fowler told KRON: 'I have no family. She’s been through some of the roughest parts of my life and meant the world to me.

'She was my everything. She was all I had. It’s traumatizing.

'She was so sweet and innocent. It is unfair the way she died. I miss her.'

The dog, believed to be a pit bull, charged at Tootie Pootie and attacked her.

Neither dog owner was able to free Tootie Pootie from their dog's jaws...

Fowler told KRON4: 'The dog overpowered the daughter and my cat was viciously attacked.

'I was also bit in the process of trying to pry my animal out of the dog's jaws.

Speaking about the dog walker, Fowler said: 'He said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry.’ Sorry doesn’t cut it. I want the owner of the pit bull to be held accountable and responsible for his animal’s action.'

He said that they fled the scene.

Tootie Pootie was rushed to a veterinary clinic. The feline was suffering from serious internal bleeding and broken bones from the ordeal...

Fowler said that the cat was humanly euthanized at Veterinary Emergency Group...

In my municipality dog owners are required to keep their dog on a leash at all times when off their property. But most ignore the law. Some actually carry a leash, but not attach it to the dog.

I will never understand cat owners who let their cat out onto the street.

Yup. The dog owners are clearly at fault - they couldn't control their dog, and the dog was vicious. But anyone who chooses to let their cat roam outside is going to encounter a day when their cat never returns home again, and it's not because the cat decided to move to another city. Outdoor cats get killed - by dogs, by cars, by raccoons, by other cats, on and on. If you want your cat to die of old age, keep it indoors.

I’m sick of hearing people make excuses for pit bulls. They are one of the very few breeds that were specifically optimized to kill things, and nothing else. To think that they won’t do what they were bred to do is asinine. So says a friend who breeds and trains service dogs.

I hope someone finds a new feline friend for that poor man in a hurry.

the cat looks beautiful colorings and well cared for too. very sad what happened. we have many stray cats around and it’s sad when one doesn’t come around anymore, but they aren’t pets so I understand they may take off or have a mishap. Hope this owner is able to be thankful for the years he had his pet cat.

I agree 100%. My wife had a cat that was cornered my three mongrels and got shredded. The owner had already been ordered to keep them detained. The animal control didn’t do a damn thing.

You got that right.

"It's all in how they're raised."
"Mine is a love bug and a big baby."
"My pittie sleeps with my kids."
What a pantload. If there were ever an invasive species that needed extermination more that feral hogs, it would be pitbulls.

Aw, poor kitty. Looks like a Maine Coon cross. I would sue the living hell out of those idiot dog owners for failing to control their dog. But I also would never have let my cat outside for “fresh air”. That’s what catios are far, and cats are a lot safer in them.

Today a kitten, tomorrow a small child, what’s the big deal?

Yeah, last year I talked to a guy who was at a yard sale, and while he was there, a pit bull went after a baby in a stroller and ripped off part of the baby's face. I didn't press him for details, and don't know if the baby survived. I hope someone shot the dog.

A dog like that is a killing machine.

Whenever a pit bull crushes the throat of a toddler, the pit bull owner could care less.

Never got into animals that shxt and piss in a box in your house then walk on counters, stoves, tables and sit in your lap.

Zero sympathry for the cat owner. Moron let his cat loose and gambled its life. A hawk, coyote, or other wil predator could have killed the cat that should have been kept safe in its house.

In this case a pit bull killed the cat. Again, keep the kitties inside and no such thing happens.

Yesterday my dog killed a cat that came into our yard. The neighbors feed the things and they are running around like rats in the street. These are the same people feeding the wildlife and turning our parks into goose crp filled no-go zones.

If you have a pet don’t let it roam into other peoples spaces. Dog or cat.

Around here outdoor cats don't last long. And if they do make it home alive after an encounter with a coyote or fisher cat, you're looking at some serious vet bills and recovery time. Reminds me of a joke:

My neighbor told me coyotes keep eating his outdoor cats so I asked how many cats he has and he said he just goes to the shelter and gets a new cat afterwards so I said it sounds like he’s just feeding shelter cats to coyotes and then his daughter started crying.

“If you have a pet don’t let it roam into other peoples spaces. Dog or cat.”

Amen. Indoors and/or in a fenced area. People who think it’s good for pets to run free don’t care about them, since they die earlier than contained pets.

Yeah...the neighbor has bad luck with her cats, but they’re pampered. The worst bites seem to come from other cats. The one I have now is tough. I think a coyote...maybe a coon...bit her I didn’t know until she was half healed. She used to sit up on the roof a lot. I think she was baiting the owls.

I knew of an “indoor dog,” once. He was pampered, and as a consequence, couldn’t be trusted outside unless he was penned. He was out by a small pond one time, and the concept of uneven ground seemed to be new to him. I watched him tip over into the water. No effort to recover as he fell. Pathetic.

If it was my cat, and I was armed, I would’ve shot the dog and not hesitated.
I carry a folding knife all the time, and I would not have hesitated in attacking the dog with it.

Both our cats are indoor-only, and they are wonderful. The male wants to play all the time, and the female is a sweetie.

Agreed. And the breed has only become more aggressive as generations of violent owners have advanced this characteristic. Yes, there are exceptions. But they are just that: exceptions.
