AUSTIN -- Tesla says its first production Cybertruck electric pickup has rolled off the assembly line, nearly two years behind the original schedule.

The company tweeted a photo on Saturday showing scores of workers in helmets and yellow vests surrounding the truck.

"First Cybertruck built at Giga Texas!" Tesla tweeted, including a cowboy hat-wearing emoji. Owner Elon Musk retweeted the post.

It’s actually about the size of a regular ICE SUV. So, Tesla should put more seats in it and call it an E-SUV. The current Tesla SUVs are about the size of a small car.

“No sale, no way.”

Yep. Ugly, impractical as hell and costs a fortune.

What’s not to like?

The Battery is the big question. How easy is it to recharge? to swap in and out? I forsee that a work vehicle will be built on a platform where a battery can be inserted and extracted and switched in and out. 1 vehicle, 3 batteries.

This is the only way it makes sense.

I will give up my 1997 Ford F-150 when they pry it off of my cold, dead butt.

I have the 5.4L V8 engine with an extended cab and towing package. I can pull a full load over 350 miles without having to stop for gas. I haven’t seen any new trucks since that are comparable and that don’t cost $70K or more.

“”a work vehicle will be built on a platform where a battery can be, inserted and extracted and switched in and out. 1 vehicle, 3 batteries.””

I thought about that also. They can envision the big trucks, the 18 wheelers. An EV big truck would drive 100 miles, pull into the battery station, the large battery behind the cab would be changed out for a fully charged battery, and the truck would drive another 100 miles.* (no charging time necessary). Two problems, at least. For home use, big pickup trucks, big SUV - if you have 3 battery packs, is the fire danger multiplied by 3?

*I do not like this idea, I was just trying to think like a liberal. I have a headache now.

It may or may not be practical, but I kinda like it. Don’t plan to give up my Ram 1500 Rebel for it, but I don’t hate it.

Just keep in mind that rolling blackouts, will impact charging those batteries.

No thank you.

It’s the perfect truck for the annual family picnic and cook-out because you don’t have to remember to bring charcoal.

I will continue to drive my2006 Ram 2500 5.9 Cummins.
It hauls my camper in the mountains of CO.
It pulls my hay trailer, and trailer for my tractor.
17 years, still going strong. Not as fast as my Wife’s 2018 6.7 though.

I mentioned the replaceable battery EV some 15 years ago, before EVs became any kind of popular. There was even an example of that offered by some maker, but that did not take off or even considered. My beef was with the battery and the range issue with EVs. That could have been overcome if the vehicles did not have proprietary batteries and could have batteries replaced on the road as needed in 'fueling stations' that have inventories of batteries ready for vehicles as they came in for 'refueling' Mind you that, those batteries would have to be made with 'sameness' for all makes and models, just like gas has sameness for all makes and models. Perhaps it's not too late. Those swapable battery vehicles can still be made. And, the vehicles would be a lot less expensive than today's EVs, since you wouldn't have to pay for the battery up=front. Just pay for a vehicle with 'battery not included' on tha sales slip, and go get your vehicle 'fueled up' at the next station close by, or by your dealer with a short-range battery at sales time.

I can see it right now. The e Truck runs out of juice in the middle of nowhere and the vital goods do not reach it’s intended destination. The goods cannot be used because they are not safe for human consumption or use.
