Former ABC News reporter James Gordon Meek to plead guilty in federal child porn case

Disgraced former ABC investigative journalist James Gordon Meek is reportedly set to plead guilty to federal child pornography offenses, which could have put him behind bars for decades.

Meek, 53, is expected to change his plea to guilty during an appearance in a federal courtroom in Virginia on Friday.

The move to change his plea comes after his attorney filed a motion in June to delay his July trial, The Daily Beast reported.

The filing argued a delay would allow Meek's team and prosecutors to 'engage in discussions regarding the possible resolution of the case.'

A plea deal could allow Meek to receive a shorter sentence than the minimum five years and maximum 20 years he would have faced if convicted at trial.

The disgraced producer, 53, was indicted on three child pornography counts in April, including the possession and distribution of images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

After an FBI raid on the Emmy Award-winning producer's Virginia home in April 2022, evidence was discovered allegedly showing Meek sent explicit images of himself to minors, impersonated an underage girl in order to engage with minors online and partook in conversations where participants expressed desire to abuse children, federal prosecutors said.

Meek's lawyer, Eugene Gorokhov, is now seeking a conditional plea that would allow his client to withdraw a guilty or no contest plea if an appeals court later rules in his favor and the evidence in the case changes.

The defense attorney alleged in pre-trial motions that the FBI raid on Meek's Arlington property illegally obtained evidence.

Although these arguments were dismissed by the judge, any later appeal may bring those allegations back into focus.

The former producer initially pleaded not guilty in the case, but court records indicate he plans to change that plea during Friday's hearing.

Meek is currently in federal custody awaiting trial after a judge revoked his bail and declared he posed a risk to the community.

That can't be good.

He’s already shown a propensity for flight and some means for staying hidden for a time.

His bail is justly revoked.

I don't get it. Growing up I never heard of such a thing. I must have been 40 or 50 years old before I even heard of such a thing. I've never known any pedophiles are pornographers. What has happened to the world now? I never thought I'd see a day when we were living in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Dear Jesus come back soon.

These days?

See if he was pro-Trump or anti-ESG-score first.

It’s not out of the question for modern law enforcement, as compromised as it is, to start framing people.

Two CNN producers got into trouble for this.

But the MSM tells us it’s a manufactured problem.

It probably wasn’t as common and you didn’t hear of it back then because there was no internet.

“A plea deal...”

I’m trying to think what he has to offer. Is he going to rat people out...I doubt it. More like: “You served the Deep State well, so no more jail time for you.”

With digital photography and video, it’s much easier to create and distribute child porn these days.

I’m trying to think what he has to offer.

The state almost never wants a trial. Like 90+% of cases end in a plea deal iirc.

Fredo’s producer at CNN got busted luring underage girls to his Vermont home.

I think he’s still in jail awaiting trial.

Growing up I never heard of such a thing.

All through the 70's, my dad was a district court judge in a (then) small town south of Denver. I was just a kid and, unbeknown to him, I would get into his trial transcripts and read through them. There were a shocking amount of pedo crimes and Polaroids were common. In hindsight, I've often thought that if it was that bad in Littleton, I don't want to know what it's like in large cities - and in this time with the internet. The demons must be active everywhere at scales I don't want to even imagine.

I think he’s still in jail awaiting trial.

Awaiting trial and going through the pre trial process from jail is an optimal way for the state to get a plea deal. Jails are packed with people who will never go to trial.

Unfamiliar with this case though. My general assumption is that unless you’re facing life either way, you’re likely not going to trial. Some do. But that’s like a couple percent.

Even accused murderers make deals and take life when death is on the table.

When I was a kid (late 70s/early 80s) we used to joke about creepy dudes we generically called Chester the Child molester. We knew it was a thing but we didn't take it seriously.

Ironically I was in a catholic elementary school t the time and one of the priests we had then is now rotting in jail for being a molester. He didn't mess with us (that I know of) as his tastes ran to high school age, at least that's what he got caught doing. But at the same time we were making those jokes the priest was actually that guy.
