I love Morel mushrooms! We have them grow on our property in a wooded area near the creek in early spring each year. But, you have to check the area daily because they only appear for a short time.
I never eat them raw and usually cook them with steak or eggs. I’ve never heard of someone getting sick from the cooked mushrooms grown in local wooded areas, I wonder if in this instance it could be from some bacteria located in the soil of the area the mushrooms were grown.
That would be my guess. I love sushi, but raw, wild mushrooms are not good................
I grew up eating Morels every spring, as did a lot of people in these parts. Mom always scrambled them with eggs.
Never heard of anyone getting sick from them, even after eating a few raw while out in the woods looking for them.
I’m thinking this was a case of unwashed hands on the person who picked the mushrooms and sold them to the restaurant, or maybe some contamination of the container in which they were transported or stored, and not the mushrooms themselves.
I will safely dispose of any morels that people find and wish to get rid of.
