Such a striking voice, such a talented songwriter, such a troubled individual, Sinéad O’Connor is dead at the age of 56.
O’Connor’s cause of death hasn’t been announced as I write these words but I reacted to the news with the same utter lack of surprise when George Michael died on Christmas Day, 2016. Apparently deeply unhappy, Michael had been casually working towards ending it all with a combination of drugs and anonymous sex. With her troubled history, it was my sad conclusion 30 years ago that O’Connor would not live a terribly long life.
She hit the big time with her 1990 cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” from her second album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.”

It’s not good to cross Mother Nature. That being said, she seemed angry for what ever reason...not a good way to rejoice I suppose.

No Second Troy
By William Butler Yeats
Why should I blame her that she filled my days
With misery, or that she would of late
Have taught to ignorant men most violent ways,
Or hurled the little streets upon the great,
Had they but courage equal to desire?
What could have made her peaceful with a mind
That nobleness made simple as a fire,
With beauty like a tightened bow, a kind
That is not natural in an age like this,
Being high and solitary and most stern?
Why, what could she have done, being what she is?
Was there another Troy for her to burn?
Sinead took the poem and built a song around the concept of painful love:

Great song.
I always liked Enya more.
Who?
Plus, Enya is a good Irish Catholic girl. My mother would approve.

Sinead had been in a fragile mental state for many years, then when her son Shane committed suicide 18 months ago, her deterioration became a faster process.
Shane bore a remarkable resemblance to his mom. Almost like a clone, except a head taller. He eventually would have outgrown that Pixie look as a fully grown adult.
A similar thing seemed to happen to Lisa Marie Presley, after her adult son did away with himself.
Conclusion: Enjoy your loved ones while they remain in your life. Open up and let them know they matter to you.
Still dead, but keep on postin’!
I like Enya. But Enya and O’Connor are apples and oranges musically.
The death of a son or daughter by suicide must be unbearable.
” the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.” (Ezekiel 28:13-14)
And now with his fallen dark music. Especially since the 60s.
Prince of the Air.
2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—
Of course. But I like how Enya weaves ecclesiastical and classical music elements into her music. Plus her references to Greco-Roman and Celtic mythologies have encouraged my study of European history.
