I’m a vet, and I never sing the anthem.
Stand at attention with hand on heart is more respectful behavior.
I’m not saying they are on my side though.
well, that would be nice if they could even get to that.
Only five or six placed their hand over their hearts. Five the first game and six the second game. Disgraceful.
As a vet you should know during anthem you stand at attention. Hand on heart is for the Pledge of Allegiance. Not being an ass, just pointing it out. :)
I do the same....really don’t remember everyone singing in years gone by.

I’m a vet. Combat. Any citizen must defend this country and the constitution or state exactly why they are protesting.
People pledge allegiance to the flags and to the republic or they say it without any intention of meaning it
It is not strictly the job of the military to do so
The constitution does not stand for racism. The opposite
That said, watch the video of their protesting the anthem if you’re going to comment.

Senator McCain wrote some bill that says you can salute as a veteran out of uniform. And... it was passed. I never agreed with that.
Stan at attention hand over heart and if you’re holding a hat - the hand still goes over your heart not the Hat. Position the hat appropriately. Holding the hat in the opposite hand really might not be approved for the position of attention. That’s nitpicky, but if you’ve done honors and ceremonies and understand the Boarding Party Manual(?) It might be explained in painstakingly accurate detail.
Lots of people never shift the position of the Hat and cover their heart with the hat. That bugs me.
