My favorite Kin Novak movie.
It’s got a great cast a funny story, and Jimmy Stewart lets Kim Novak shine. Also That voice of hers and the beat outfits.

Bell Book and Candle is one of my favorite movies, although at that stage in his career Jimmy Stewart is a bit long in the tooth for the romantic lead. At the same time, Kim Novak is at her best, while seeing Ernie Kovacks in a supporting role is a special treat. One of my favorite scenes is when Stewart and Novack after an evening of (literal) enchantment find themselves on the roof of the Flatiron Building at dawn looking down at a snow-covered Union Square.

I watched that movie in a 1958 Edsel Villager at the Sundown Drive-in Theater in Whittier, Calif. when it was in release.

Bot to mention her familiar, a Siamese cat named Pywacket.

I remember one line from the film (spoken coincidentally by Elizabeth Montgomery). “She’s not a “witch”, Darling. You just can’t spell.” Believe it or not, but daring dialog for its time.

Oops, perhaps the line was spoken by Janice Rule. Or from a different film.

Pyewacket is a pretty good name for a cat (so is Mungojerrie; T. S. Eliot had lots of them), but I plan to name our next female cat Mehitabel.

‘I plan to name our next female cat Mehitabel.’

I named one of my cats Bruce; I guess I was having an uncreative day...

Our youngest is named George. Cat names don’t have to be strange.

I named some of my cats these names
Filthy McNasty
Gettlefinger
Fat Boy
Furbag
and I once named all the kittens our momma cat had with “rap” names

My wife doesn’t let me name the cats anymore.
