If only Quint had listened.
On this one particular day we went it was packed, with long waiting lines at the slides. Since this was shortly after the Jaws movie had been out, and was still playing in theatres, my older brother decided to solve our problem. He pointed briskly out to the deeper part of the river and yelled, "Shaaarrrrrk!!!". Everybody rushed out of the water, with people even climbing over each other to get out. Even though we were on a river in Alabama about 200 miles from the gulf coast.
My family has laughed about that for almost 5 decades. LOL
great summer movie
The movie that put Spielberg on the map.
ping
Great film. “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” was the memorable line.
Jaws and two summers later Star Wars changed the way studios looked at the summer season which before had often been a slow time for the movie biz. The idea of the summer blockbuster became cemented in Hollywood.
My mother wouldn’t let me see Jaws.
Then we went on a flight, and that was the movie they showed...ha ha!
Mr. Jaws--Dickie Goodman
The good old days when everyone had to watch the same movie.
One of the greatest.
And to think Steven Spielberg went on to give us “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind”, “Indiana Jones”, “E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial”, “Jurassic Park” and “Schindler’s List”!
Funny thing, Bull sharks are found inland 200+ miles, so, yeah, yell, “Shark!”, and you’ll get attention.
Maybe not that funny. Unless you had a dam or two between you and the gulf ... bull sharks have ascended the Mississippi as far as Alton, Illinois, above St. Louis.
Jaws always makes me think of this famous scene from Caddyshack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPxiXGr9nFM
Is that near Cairo, Illinois? I remember reading about a shark incident in the 1930s in the Mississippi near Cairo. Bull shark which are very adaptable was the culprit.
The 1975 K5 Blazer with the removable top.

They don’t make em like that anymore. I had an 82 K5 Blazer. I miss it.
