The song was written and sung by Pete Ham and produced by George Harrison, who plays some of the slide guitar parts of the song along with Ham. The record also features Leon Russell on piano. As the song was unfinished at the time Harrison left the Badfinger album to produce the Concert for Bangladesh, the final mix was done by Todd Rundgren, who took over Straight Up after Harrison's departure

I’m only a casual fan of Badfinger. The only two songs I know are Come and Get It and Day After Day.

The producer: Todd Rundgren, was one of my favorite songwriters and performers during that era. Todd never achieved the level of widespread fame he deserved, one reason being he loved to change his style from album to album. Not easy to market a performer like that. Todd has become more Liberal as he ages, highly intolerant of anything conservative. In spite of all that, Todd Rundgren will always be a Wizard and a True Star.
Their manager, Stan Polley, swindled the band out of money and shortly after Pete Ham committed suicide, blaming Polley. A second band member committed suicide years later.
Only one member alive today, Joey Molland.
At one time in the eighties the guy was laying carpet in LA. You couldn’t listen to the radio for five minutes from 1970 through 1972 without hearing these guys. I don’t know how he coped.
Yes I always play baby blue when I pull up day after day. They have a song about flying that’s fun to hear too
I was a big utopia fan years ago.
I think Todd’s dust up with John Lennon may have hurt him in the industry. Although he became a sought after producer. (Even scored dumb & dumber:))

Such a shame, great band. You can hear the Beatles influence in their music.
