Can’t find a place to go in NYC? Council bill aims to offer thousands of public restrooms

That’s relieving news.

City lawmakers are aiming to solve an all-too-common problem of not knowing where to go when you’ve got to go — which plagues tourists and locals alike — with a bill to add thousands of new thrones to the Big Apple within the next 12 years.

If passed, the plan introduced by Brooklyn Councilmember Sandy Nurse on Thursday would amend the city’s charter and require the government to build a four-year plan of “establishing and maintaining a public bathroom network,” Hell Gate NYC reported.

“This is really an issue of equity and justice. It’s been a long time coming, and the City knows that we need to be doing this,” Nurse, 39, told the outlet.

More deals are made and crimes committed in NYC public restrooms than anywhere else on the planet.

Could be a great shovel-ready jobs program. Build a set of restrooms on every corner or similar in the city, staff it with 1-2 people 24x7 to keep them clean, etc. Add to it the supporting services—toilet paper, air freshners, disinfectants, soaps, cleaning supplies, plumbers, police for the perverts, whores, and drug dealers. And the upside, maybe people not using the curb or police cars as toilets.

Public restrooms in NYC?

I'm so sure, lol, those will be safe, clean and properly maintained.

I'd rather burst.

The plan will work briefly but will be abandoned in time when bad actors will ruin them through abuse as well as public sexual interludes.

“safe, clean and properly maintained”

If you wear work boots the needles on the ground probably won’t stick you...

In Europe, they work because they are properly maintained and cleaned. You have to pay an euro to use the facilities. They should do the same in NYC if they are serious about this proposal.

This is the real reason why public facilities do not work. People are pigs and or do nasty things in them.
I doubt you could even provide a water hose for people to wash up with.
Even public areas like parks ..while most are serviced are kind of gross...i mean if you knew what goes on.
And tent cities and hobo encampments are grody to the max.

Just wait for the New York council to pass a bill, stating that all public buildings, hotels, restaurants, need to open their restrooms to anybody, and everybody, whether or not, they are staying there, dining there, or have business there. This will finish destroying the city.

Great idea actually. Millions of people and when you gotta go, you gotta go. Better than on the street.

Government build a four year plan??

It takes a lot of time and effort to build public toilets that the homeless can't intentionally destroy.
