Really interesting interview. Cross actually dubbed for Jimmy Page in a Led Zep concert. Interesting talk about his work with Larry Carlton, Steeve Gant and other great studio musicians. His work with and how Michael McDonald performed with him.
Also, his admiration for Steely Dan and how he learned from Joni Mitchell who is one of his favorites. His respect for Pat Metheny.
Sounds like a great guy, a great musical trip, someone I share musical interests with for sure.

OOPS, HE SUBBED FOR JIMMY pAGE, THEY USED TO WARM THEM UP.
Never cared much for across until I saw a video of one of his hits. Some of the clips in the video were from a concert where he was on stage wearing a vintage Houston Oilers #34 jersey — from the legendary Earl Campbell. I started to become a fan. LOL.
LOL.
Yep, he hails from Texas.

The Greatest Guitar Solo You Can’t HEAR!
Rick Beato
In this episode I rediscover the greatest guitar solo that is inaudible from this classic song.

I really liked ‘Sailin’ ‘ when it came out. Joni Mitchell is an interesting guitar mentor. I had a girlfriend in the 70s who studied Mitchell’s guitar style... she used atypical tunings to come up with all sort of unique effects... really opened my eyes to how ‘different’ Mitchell was.
I tried to like the guy but he double-dealt me over my purchase of his crucifix statue, while expressing great anger..
I call it the “Cross Chris Cross cross crisscross.”
I heard that solo, and always liked it, never knew it was cross. He was very good, but not Carlton territory. He talked about how he picked up Jeff Beck’s guitar and how the action was so high, asked Beck how he could play it like that, Beck responded something like, I manage.
Yes she did, I guess alot did, even Neil Young used to tune the top two strings the same on some songs. These folks are in another league when it comes to that stuff.
Hope you got your money back :)
The previous owner of SRV’s ‘Number One’ Stratocaster.
Yep, now he plays custom electric's and Taylor acoustics. I forgot who he said made is electric's but Beato obviously was familiar.
heh... maybe it’s a Canadian thing.
He declined an invitation to be Steely Dan’s main guitarist.
I bought two and was double-crossed.
I'll check on that, he tells a story about that in the video. How he always wanted to play with them, but was relieved when they didn't ask him to play on one song, forgot which one. He then rattles off his top five SD songs.
Tom Anderson electrics IIRC
thanks, quite the client list:
