Most of the "flat earthers" are doing it for the humor. It's become an on again, off again joke among young adults about who can come up with the zaniest idea to "prove" the earth is flat, all while knowing it's not real.
It's analogous to us generation X programmers decades ago postulating what-if explanations for what we saw on Star Trek Next Generation. LOL
