According to the study abstract, the “urine adenine/creatinine ratio (UAdCR)” was the reference used and those with the highest were at greatest risk.
However, they found that Empagliflozin (Jardiance) basically attenuated the problem, seemingly keeping the kidneys safe.

I just started jardiance. When I got on Medicare, I got a very good drug plan because of my diabetes. Jardiance is about 1000 a month. I paid 600 for the first month, which was my deductible, and 10 a month after that.
