They give the race of the victims, but not the perps. Methinks they want people to read the headline only and come to a wrong conclusion.
If it was 100 white people robbed would it have been a hate crime?
The choice of victims may have been purely pragmatic, small, female, and more likely to carry large sums of cash, more likely to be in the country illegally and thus less likely to report the crime, less likely to be armed than a black woman, etc.
Even violence beyond what was needed to take the money could be defended as general thuggishness and poor impulse control, rather hatred than directed at a protected group.
I predict plea bargains, short sentences, early release, further violent crime.

Funny, whenever I travel to San Francisco to visit family, Asians do not cross the street when they see me and my family coming down the sidewalk, in fact they often stop to talk. They don’t seem fearful of us at all. //s
OTOH, Asians vote ≈ 63=65% for Democrats so they need to look at that aspect too.
