'We've messed up': City, property manager hold meeting on 'nuisance' Meadowlands Apartments (Section 8, Not even ONE year old!)

Four months after the city of Madison declared the Meadowlands Apartments a public nuisance, local leaders and property managers of the Meadowlands Apartments held a public informational meeting to highlight changes that aim to make the complex on the far east side safer.

"It's a fairly new apartment complex," Madison Police East District Captain Jamar Gary said. "It's been almost a year since it opened, and we've observed some issues at the apartment complex."

The complex first opened in September 2022. Since then, Madison police officers have received more than 500 calls for service to the apartments. There have been 90 calls for service so far in August 2023 alone.

R.J. Pasquesi, the president of Indianapolis-based property management company KCG Companies, opened his remarks at the meeting with an admission to concerned neighbors that they dropped the ball.

"I'm here to tell you we've messed up at this property to begin with," Pasquesi said.

KGC Companies' executive vice president of property management Kimberly Hurd echoed that sentiment.

"I want to assure you that I am listening to your concerns, and I hear your frustrations, and you might be shocked to hear that we share them with you," Hurd said.

Madison Assistant City Attorney Jennifer Zilavy said the city first notified property managers of issues at the complex through a letter in February but did not receive a response. In April, they declared the property as a public nuisance, ordering the owners to fix the issues or face significant fines, among other consequences.

Pasquesi said his company is working to remedy the issues by adding more security measures and removing problem tenants, but eviction is easier said than done.

"We have a strict, I'm going to say zero-tolerance policy when it comes to resident behavior," Pasquesi said at the meeting. "We do not want to allow bad apples to ruin it for those that truly want to be there. I think you should read the Madison guidelines on how tough it is to evict people in your city. So why don't you talk to your alders, why don't you talk to your city officials, and get the rules changed."

The Madison Police Department has had a community outreach officer at the buildings checking in on residents weekly since June and plans to continue that strategy.

That means the development cannot accept new tenants using vouchers to lower rent costs, which creates its own problem given the overall lack of affordable housing options in Madison. - Jun 14, 2023"

Did the property management “drop the ball” as he says, or are there other issues going on there?

Are there issues with the management of the property, or are there problems with the tenants who live there causing “issues” as they say?

And are there things we aren’t allowed to say, about tenants and/or activities happening there, so instead we talk about problems with taking out the trash and “security” at the location?

It’s interesting how they never really identify the root cause of these (wink wink nudge nudge) “issues” that are plaguing the city. They just sort of talk around them.

Whatever could those “issues” be? Poor pest control? Water heaters not hot enough? Tenants can’t sleep because of traffic noise?

This crap started under Obama. They knocked down the housing projects in the inner cities and started building Section 8 "low income housing" in the once nice and safe suburbs.

A Section 8 apartment complex went up near my suburban home in Suffolk, VA. It didn't take long before people were getting robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of the upscale Kroger's Supermarket that I frequented or shot to death at the neighborhood 7-11.

And the neighborhood public schools quickly went to crap as well.

yes, we were thinking along the same lines. This story really doesn’t give us many specifics, about the problems they are dealing with there.

I post this often—but since it is never discussed anywhere it is worth reposting.

I call it the “grandma issue”.

Grandma is a sweet black lady. Everybody likes grandma. She is friendly and helpful to her neighbors and has a smile for everybody. She qualifies for her section 8 voucher and moves into the complex.

At some point grandma’s daughter gets arrested—usually for drug-related offenses and the court orders the kids to be removed from the home.

Grandma—being the wonderful person she is—steps in and rescues the kids. They move in with her.

At least one of them is a teenager—boy or girl.

That teenager then invites friends to visit.

Then the neighborhood is suddenly facing break-ins and other crimes they have never seen before....

Rinse and repeat—thousands and thousands of times.

1. Section 8 tenants
2. Can’t evict them

What could possibly go wrong?

The US Army Corps of Engineers should build a wall around Madison and let no one in or out and nothing in or out for six months. At the six month point they should send the mortuary people in to clean up the mess.

During the COVID nonsense, The Squad and Democrats pushed for rent moratoriums all over the country. Folks couldn’t work, they couldn’t pay rent.

Want to know what rent check NEVER stopped coming.....the Section 8 Check. And with the Section 8 check, normally comes the check for utilities and food stamps.

So, if you own a multi-family in a liberal city, guess what? You never want to go without getting the rent paid, you go Section 8.

Atlanta tore down all of their projects. Put up nice, new apartment complexes. Caveat that a certain percentage of the new apartments had to be given to some of the folks that lived there before. Usually the elderly ladies that caused no issues.

What was one of the issues with that? The elderly ladies had sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters that raised as much hell as they could. So, imagine living next to one of those sweet, elderly ladies( and they were, I dealt with them all day ), you’re paying market rent(and it ain’t cheap), but you also have to deal with her family members who are smoking weed, drinking(think the scenes in the Blind Side) all day and causing problems.

What’s the next question? How long are you going to rent that apartment next to the sweet, elderly lady? Not very long.

The apartment goes empty, they need a tenant, they put another Section 8 recipient in there and the cycle continues.

Now, if Madison wants to raise hell, look for the homeless advocates or such to start filing lawsuits and raising hell, screaming...discrimination.

And to think, Madison is one of two liberal, hellholes that cause Wisconsin to have Dem’s in the state level positions, a liberal state Supreme Court all while having an almost veto-proof Republican majority in the state legislature. Odd how that happens.

I see this happen time and time again. Brand new “affordable housing” apartments are built. The politicians all pat themselves on the back for the photo-ops and disappear back into their offices. Within a year police calls to the complex increase dramatically and the residents are complaining about roaches, broken windows, and faulty plumbing. The calls then go out for someone to “do something”.

They all ignore the fact that it is the residents (who have little to no skin in the game) who broke the windows and piled trash in the back room bringing the roaches and mice. The plumbing is backed up because everything from menstrual products to cigarette butts are flushed down the toilets.

In addition, crime is up because half the residents are dealing in drugs and they are all robbing each other for the cash and/or the drugs.

Tax-payers are then forced to pay for repairs or for the residents to all be moved to the new “affordable housing” complex just built down the road.

Rinse and repeat.

Yep, sadly, these older grandmothers are enabling the bad behavior and downward spiral in the lives of the grandchildren.

They want to be helpful, but those kids really need some form of tough love, not enabling.
