Then they should vote to repeal the 17th amendment. (If they can get enough D senators to get a 3/4 majority.)

Senator McConnell could step down from the Republican Senate leadership but announce he will stay til the new senator is elected in 2014. That could thwart the governor of KY from appointing McConnell’s replacement.
The Turtle could also catch a case of shingles and milk that for nearly a year. Then check into a clinic for depression. That’s good for a few more months.
He could also go on vacation for 377 days in 2.5 years. I hear that a going thing too.
