The war in Ukraine has become the most violent example of the east west conflict. At the same time as the Russians are trying to halt the advance of Ukrainian forces in southern Ukraine, on a line stretching from Zaporizhia to Kherson, Kiev has launched a brand new offensive in the countryside of Donbass, particularly in the Donetsk region. This offensive started south of Bakhmut and extended as far as the town of Marinka, southwest of this settlement. In fact, the battle data we have today show that the successes of the Ukrainian offensive reached even the southern lines of Marinka. In other words, today we saw the biggest surprises of the war on the front lines of the Donetsk region. To discover all this, we are going with you to the southern flanks of Bakhmut.
The Ukrainian blitzkrieg, which is active on the southern flanks of Bakhmut, has put the Russians in a complete pincer in strategic areas up to the Donetsk lines. A few days ago, the Russian occupiers in Donetsk woke up to a surprise morning. Unidentified people used balloons to hoist the Ukrainian flag over the city. In the early morning, a large Ukrainian flag was seen by residents of the central part of the city, especially in the Kalininsky district. So unknown people decided to remind both the occupiers and the residents that Donetsk is Ukraine. Russian soldiers reacted tensely to the incident. Judging by the footage from the scene, they tried to knock down the Ukrainian flag with small arms. However, the Russian forces were not very successful. On the same day that Ukrainians raised their national flag in Donetsk, just a few days ago, military activity in this settlement continued. The Ukrainian Armed Forces broke through the Russian defenses in the Opytne area and began to expand the bridgehead for the offensive.
In the Opytne area, soldiers of the 59th Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted heavy offensive operations against Russian troops there. Combat experts noted that 2 square kilometers were liberated in this area and today the bridgehead near Opytne has expanded by another quarter. Judging by the map, about half of Opytne is already in the gray zone, meaning that active clashes are taking place in this area. The Ukrainian Armed Forces were advancing confidently towards the Donetsk airport, which is only a few kilometers away. It is worth noting that the defense of Opytne was carried out by the 10th brigade of the Russian Air Force, which was at the forefront of the war in Chechnya. The Wagner PMC militants had previously been trained on the basis of this brigade in Molkino. Founded in the fall of 2014 in Donbas, the notorious Russian group Somalia also operates in the front sector in the Opytne region.
It was this group that participated in the Donetsk airport battles. Nevertheless, the Ukrainians are doing a good job in Opytne.
Today, after all these offensive operations, Ukrainian defenders finally liberated part of the village of Opytne, close to the Donetsk airport. Ukrainian successes in this settlement have galvanized the Russians. On the same day that the Ukrainians made progress in Opytne, Russian forces launched a counter-attack in the Bakhmut area, but with no confirmed success. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian troops attempted to break through Ukrainian positions near Orikhove-Vasylivka and regain lost positions near Klishchiivka, Andriivka and Kurdyumivka. However, these Russian attempts ended in failure. The general situation in the Kurdiumivka direction, south of Andriivka, was also not favorable for the Russians. Especially in Avdiivka, southwest of Kurdiumivka, there were surprising situations.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces tried 10 times to dislodge Ukrainian forces from positions near Avdiivka and Marinka, but failed. In Novokalynove, northwest of Avdiivka, in the area called Keramik, the Russians tried to stop the advance of Ukrainian troops. In the settlement of Marinka, the Russians also tried to block the advance of Ukrainian troops. But these attempts were fruitless. Marinka is located southwest of Avdiivka settlement. Here, the Ukrainian offensive to advance in the area and break the Russian defense lines is commendable. The new success of Ukrainian forces in this sector was confirmed by independent sources monitoring the balance of forces on the front line. Meanwhile, clashes continued north of Marinka. Russian troops launched attacks near Krasnohorivka.

Today, there is good news: we are preparing to strengthen the package of defense support from Germany. Air defense systems, artillery, equipment. What was agreed upon with Chancellor Scholz. What was discussed today with German Minister of Foreign Affairs Baerbock – she was on a visit to Ukraine, I met with her today in Kyiv. It’s crucial that partners hear the needs of our state, our soldiers, and the protection of our energy infrastructure. I am confident – there will be results.We are also making progress with our other partners, in particular, regarding air defense systems. Additional systems will be in Ukraine.
Today, I held several important meetings. First of all, I would like to highlight the meeting with Ukraine’s Defense Minister Umerov, First Deputy Minister Pavliuk, and Deputy Prime Minister Fedorov regarding the provision of our soldiers and the transparency of this provision. The specific needs of our combat brigades should be met as quickly as possible, and for this, all accounting should be digitized. In general, there should be much less paperwork in the military, and there should be no difference between what is reported here in the center and what is really needed at the front. The Ministry of Defense is currently relaunching the accounting system, with assistance from the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Today, I also had a meeting with representatives of the law enforcement sector. Obviously, Ukraine needs more progress in protecting the interests of society. In protection from those who prioritize their own wallet above social norms and rules. Above even the war. There will be new steps of the state.
And one more thing.
Since this morning, various Ukrainian cities and regions have been hit by Russian attacks.
Nikopol – brutal Russian shelling, artillery. Ochakiv in Mykolaiv region, Kherson, and other cities and villages in Kherson region, Polohy district in Zaporizhzhia region, Donetsk, Pokrovsk district, Bakhmut district, Volnovakha district, and others. Kharkiv region. Chernihiv region. Sumy region. Kryvy Rih – a missile strike. Another attack by Shaheds. Even when there is a relative peace and quiet in some parts of our territory, we should always remember our land, our cities, and villages that are almost constantly under fire.
And even though today is the 565th day of this war, all of us, each and every one in Ukraine, should remain focused on defending the state just as we did in the early days. Russia does not hope to win. The enemy hopes only that we will not endure. Ukraine must endure. Anything that strengthens us is a priority. And only that is a priority.
No weakening! And we won’t allow anyone to weaken Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a meeting with Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock, who is on a visit to our country.
The Head of State thanked Germany for its significant support for Ukraine, particularly military and financial. The President emphasized a new package of defense assistance from Germany and a significant contribution to bolstering Ukraine’s air defense.
“I am grateful to Chancellor Scholz, his team and the entire German people. During my visit to Germany, we felt strong support from your society,” he emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the fact that Annalena Baerbock began her visit to Ukraine with a visit to one of the energy infrastructure facilities in Kyiv region. In this context, it was emphasized that strengthening the resilience of the energy sector is one of the priorities for our country on the eve of the winter period.
The President spoke in detail about the urgent needs of Ukraine’s defense forces on the battlefield. Particular attention was paid to further strengthening the Ukrainian air defense system, in particular to protect the south of Ukraine and the “grain corridor”. The President emphasized the importance of attracting additional assistance from partners to bolster the artillery of our defenders, in particular through 155 mm caliber systems and long-range missiles.
The parties exchanged views on Ukraine’s European integration and the progress made by our country in implementing the recommendations of the European Commission on the status of a candidate for EU membership.
The Head of State emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to cooperate closely with Germany in the preparation for the next international conference on the recovery of our country to be held in Berlin in the summer of 2024.
“It is important to ensure the most concrete practical results of the conference,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

-Baerbock said she is still touched by conversations with children in the centre for children brought back from the Russian Federation. The diplomat admitted that she was simply aghast that the children had been taken to a foreign country and brainwashed to be set against their homeland just like that.
-Baerbock added that the fate of these children once again shows that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not have a moral compass, and he violates the rules of the international community and human coexistence on a daily basis.

Artillerymen of the 1st Separate Special Forces Brigade named after Ivan Bohun destroyed an interesting piece of occupation equipment - a 2B9 Vasylok mortar on an Ural chassis. Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba held talks with his German counterpart Annalena Berbok, in particular, the parties discussed the provision of Taurus long-range missiles.

“We discussed in detail the provision of German long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Today we better understand the specifics of the process of the German government making a final decision. For its part, Ukraine is ready to do everything necessary to speed it up. Based on the results of the negotiations, I can say that the option of providing these missiles remains open, and the decision-making process within Germany is moving forward,” the minister noted.
Kuleba thanked Germany for the powerful defense support that the German government provided to Ukraine, in particular, in the creation of an air shield and the strengthening of the tank power of our army. He especially noted the effectiveness of the German Cheetah systems, which demonstrated good results in protecting Ukrainian cities and towns from Russian terror and saved many lives.
“The Minister emphasized that the negotiations discussed the additional strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense on the eve of the new winter season and possible attacks against the energy system by the terrorist state of Russia. The parties also discussed promoting the export of Ukrainian grain, preparations for the International Summit on Food Security, and the President’s humanitarian program of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky “Grain From Ukraine”, the support of the German side of Ukraine on the way to our country’s accession to the EU,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“We also discussed in detail the participation of Germany and German companies in the first Forum of Defense Industries, which will be held in Ukraine soon. The German government and defense companies have shown great interest in this event and will take an active part in it,” Kuleba said.
The ministers separately emphasized the agreement to work together for the return to Ukraine of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. Dmytro Kuleba expressed his personal gratitude to Annalena Berbok for her efforts to return Ukrainian children from Russian captivity.
According to Kuleba, tomorrow Ukraine and Germany will hold another round of political consultations at the level of deputy ministers, where they will discuss the entire range of topics on the bilateral agenda.
