Aaron Rodgers' devastating season-ending injury in his debut with the New York Jets on Monday night has reignited the debate surrounding artifical turf fields, prompting several NFL players to call out the league.
An MRI on Tuesday confirmed that Rodgers, 39, suffered a torn Achilles on the fourth snap of his career with the Jets in the team’s overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills, according to multiple reports.
He was sacked by linebacker Leonard Floyd and eventually carted off the field.
Several of Rodgers’ teammates pointed to the field conditions at MetLife Stadium, specifically the turf, which was replaced earlier this year after overwhelming criticism around the league.
"We wanted the NFL to protect the players with grass fields, but the NFL is more worried about making money," Jets receiver and Rodgers’ longtime teammate in Green Bay Randall Cobb said via The Athletic.

Is it uncomfortable kneeling on artificial turf? Or, does the cost of the turf cut into their donations to America hating organizations?
Fire Goodell!
so stop playing if you don’t like the field turf.
you choose to still coach or play and collect your pay, you are part of the problem.
They should rip the Jets horrid left tackle, an overaged, over the hill blind side protector whose body is held together by glue.
Then they should rip the general manager, who’s done little to nothing to improve the offensive line the past three seasons.
Let them go on strike. The new college power five set up will take over with the fans.
I remember walking on artificial turf long ago at ESU. It felt like solid concrete with a thin layer of outdoor carpeting on top. That was it.
Hard to believe they ever allowed it, much less STILL allow it.
Artifical turf is crap. The players should go on a strike. There's a reason they don't allow it during the World Cup.
The NFL isn’t alone - artificial turf is being installed on high school fields.
Aww, looky. The millionaires are upset. Poor babies.
Blame the owners....they vote on everything
Aaron Rodgers is a franchise quarterback and you can't just replace them. That's why everyone is mad about this.
an NFL player screaming profit over people?? lol...
I’ve heard in the past, that astro turf was supposedly easier to maintain, and also prevented a muddy sloppy field in case of rain or snow.
I don’t know if anyone is talking about thise issues nowadays.
Memories are short. Can’t grow grass at that latitude in January. They won’t shorten the season - neither players, owners, nor TV would allow that.
So, does the players union want them to ban indoor stadiums too? Anybody old enough to remember Houston finding out they couldn’t grow grass in the Astrodome when it opened - even with translucent roof panels and at about the lowest latitude in pro sports?
No reason for a dome in either Atlanta or New Orleans. Their games should start at 8 pm due to the heat.
They are going to use real grass indoors for the World Cup.
