These are frustrated fans!
This reminds me of a different experience. I was in a bar about 30 years ago in northern New Jersey, and the Jets were losing badly to some other team. The funny thing is that the Jets were so bad, the bar crowd was cheering for the other team, erupting at every miscue. And, there were a lot of them.
I declared myself a neutral fan, as my team wasn’t playing, and it became clear that it was late in the season, and the crowd was rooting for the Jets to lose so they could get a #1 draft pick... a savior.

I’ve been to a lot of NFL, MLB, and pro indoor lacrosse games. One of the dumbest ideas is to attend a home game with the visiting team’s jersey. Some fans will be cool and some will be drunken idiots looking for a fight.
Some stadiums follow the character of the city they’re in, if you get my drift. It’s not worth it.
