A New England Patriots season ticket holder has been 'beaten to death' by a Miami Dolphins supporter at the Gillette Stadium, according to witnesses.
Father-of-two Dale Mooney, 53, of Newmarket, New Hampshire, died following an incident in the 300-tier segment of the arena just before 11pm on Sunday.
The Norfolk County DA's Office said cops responded to calls for medical aid in the section at 10.57pm and 'the matter remains under active investigation'.
A photo from the Foxborough, Massachusetts stadium show EMTs scrambling to revive someone who is out of shot on the ground as worried fans watch on.
Videos also show security trying to break up a scuffle, and medics administering CPR a short time afterwards.
One witness from the scene, Joseph Kilmartin, described the alleged attack by a Miami Dolphins fan as 'hard to watch'.
'They started tussling around for a few minutes,' Kilmartin told WCVB.
'At one point another Dolphins fan walked over. He punched him three times, and the man just went out. It was pretty hard to watch.'
Several other anonymous witnesses gave similar descriptions of the 'brutal' attack which caused Mooney to 'crumble', while speaking with Boston 10 at the scene.
'One word I can really use is shocking,' one bystander said. 'My thoughts go out to that man's family. It's awful what happened,' another person commented.
Mooney's devastated wife said she felt 'numb' after hearing the horrific news about her husband and father-of-two, who has been a dedicated Patriots season ticket holder for three decades.
'I just feel numb I can't even believe this is for real,' Lisa Mooney told WCVB.
'I don't understand why people have to go to that extreme. Why can't it just be fun, that's all it's supposed to be, just a fun family event.'

Saw the dolphins play the Pats years ago at Foxborough. Couldn’t believe all the constant fights breaking out it was nuts.
Football watchers that actually go to the game are slightly less bright than those that watch it at home or a bar.

I couldn’t find any media showing that it was two white guys going at it, so the lack of media specifics is telling to me. I will note that I did only see the picture of one black man, who looked like he was just a spectator trying to help this guy.
I also don’t like it that there is a 90% in these situations that I am proven right. It’s sad to me that people just cannot go to a game and enjoy the show. I really want to be wrong about these things, to be truthful.
Do a random internet search on terms like “drunk NY Jets fans” and you’ll see what I mean.
From the short clips I’ve seen, the only blacks right at the scene were part of security coming in to break it up.
The mob scene is the show, for a lot of people. When I was watching the NFL, I had the best seat in the house. Refrigerator and bathroom adjacent, and if the game sucked, I turned it off. People that plunk down big bucks and travel for these events mystify me. I’ve done it for a few concerts, but football? No. I knew a guy that got to go see his beloved Chiefs play. He said it was a good show...a spectacle. All well and good, but I wouldn’t want to be near a bunch of drunks that actually cared about who won the game.

Drunks! Went to an Orioles game a couple of years ago. About 5 wasted drunk morons walking around the park get behind me. And start screaming as loud as they can into my ears and continue for 20 straight minutes. That’s how these scuffles start. Drunken assholes. I got the security guards and they didn’t do a thing to the drunks. But they moved me to other seating.NEVER. NEVER again will they get my money. I haven’t been back since. Now this poor guy dead for what? For stupidity.
It’s not just the NFL do similar search on NHL, College Football or most other leagues even the NBA and the vast majority of the fights in the stands are among white people and occasionally Hispanic
These days it is wise to avoid any large crowd/gathering.

I attended a game one time and a Miami fan in a Marino jersey came in the restroom with a 100 or more home fans as an away fan and started mouthing off about Marino. Clearly, he had been over-served. He kept at it and soon fists were flying. An hour or so later, I saw him bloodied, cuffed and escorted out. Justice already delivered.
I am still 6’2” of course, but back then my 220lbs was was more farm built muscle. Fortunately, even drunk assholes didn’t look to get a piece of me.
