The New Hampshire father of two who died after an incident at Gillette Stadium during the New England Patriots game Sunday had been punched in the face and knocked unconscious by a Miami Dolphins fan, according to a witness.
Dale Mooney, 53, was treated at the scene by EMTs and rushed to a hospital after what had been described as an “apparent medical event,” but was pronounced dead shortly before midnight.
A spectator has now claimed that he witnessed a physical altercation between Mooney and a Dolphins fan.
“The Dolphins fan walks over and clearly punches him in the face,” Joey Kilmartin, of Nashua, New Hampshire, told MassLive. “(He) gets knocked out and you can tell right away he’s not OK.”
Kilmartin told the news outlet that Mooney also had gotten into a physical confrontation with other fans toward the end of the fourth quarter. ___________

Tragedy: A longtime #Patriots fan died at the game Sunday night after being punched by a #Dolphins fan and hitting his head on the ground, causing him to lose consciousness and never regain it.
The fan, Dale Mooney, was a 30 year season ticket holder who was at the game with his son when this happened.
Just an absolutely awful occurrence all around. A football rivalry should never be taken this far.
Praying for Dale and the Mooney family

Manslaughter. I hope they get the guy.
Floriduh man strikes again!? Or is he from somewhere else, but really really cares about his fish bait Dolphins? Does he have a winter condo in Florida? But beats up people in Massachusetts?
Just sickening.
Prayers up, for the victim’s family.
Punch someone hard in the face over a team rivalry?
Crazy!
over a game? Priorities
I just don’t understand sports fans. They describe themselves as “we” and “they” as if they were somehow actually a part of the team they are rooting for. My brother in law was Niners Giants Warriors “we” and was drinking all the while. I am fortunate not to give an actual damn about any activity where I am the “we” that pays a hundred bucks so some other “we” can make a hundred thousand throwing a ball around and doing tricks with it and maybe a stick. I have not spent a single minute in 5 years worrying about which group of millionaires is going to beat which other group of millionaires at some silly game.
The man’s wife says she wonders how this could happen but she really knows and the best thing she can do is teach her kids to get fulfillment in life from something other than sports fandom.
Some need a boost to their poor self image. Put that jersey on and presto they ARE somebody.
About 15 years ago I predicted to my friends that NFL games would become as violent as European football. I observed the change in the crowds from the early 90s when I began going to games to the about 2007 when I made the decision to stay away. The drunkenness of the fans, the f-bombs, the amount of physical altercations all increased 10x in that time.
It’s a good indicator where are society is headed.
Almost the exact thing happened in the men’s restroom at a pro-game a year or two ago.
Then this one not long ago…a fair fight is different from these thuggish sucker punches. I think they should go for Manslaughter 1st degree in these cases.
I'm an ex-baseball fan.
It's all 'Bread and Circus', and these millionaires are paid actors to rig games. The proverbial 'squirrel' keeps us, the masses, calmer and paying less attention than we would otherwise, with the fraud that's all around us, politically and financially.
A father and a husband was killed for nothing, and the goof who did it ruined his own life for worse than nothing.
I was at the game in 1976 when Lou Piniella slide hard into Carlton Fisk at Yankee Stadium in a Red Sox - Yankees game. Piniella bounced up fists flying, and benches cleared. Greg Nettles pulled Bill Lee off a pig pile a few times, apparently telling him to cool it. When he persisted Nettles tossed him on the ground, separating his shoulder, and effectively ending his career. Lee was acting like a jerk.
There had been ongoing fights and brawls in the stands all during the game, people just punching people for no reason. The Sox fans were worse. I think alcohol was involved here. There were literally hundreds of cops. At one point they dove en masse into bleachers, swinging nightsticks.
Getting on the subway after the game there were people wrestling rolling on the ground, right in front of the cops.
I was at Foxborough for a Jets game, and someone in a bus full of Jets fans from New York poured a beer on the head of a state trooper. The state troopers escorted the bus to state line and told them not to come back. There was a police riot between the Staties and Foxborough police over detail overtime pay outside a Patriots game once. The Staties thought that the locals were poaching on their patch.
What a world.
These stadiums are full of crazed drunk football idiots.
It’s stupid to risk your life
1. The police are describing this as an “investigation” — apparently because the actual cause of death hasn’t been determined.
2. It seems that the victim here may very well have been the aggressor in one or more incidents at the game.
The “father and husband” may not have been a pure angel in this. He may have instigated it.

FOXBORO STADIUM IS THE FIRST STADIUM THAT EVER HAD A JAIL AND DISTRICT JUDGE ON THE PREMISES LIVE.
AS ONE WHO HAS ATTENDED MANY GAMES THERE, THE PLACE IS A HELL HOLE..!
WORSE FANS IN THE NFL. EVEN MORE THAN THE EAGLES.
There was a science fiction story by Norman Spinrad a long time ago in which football teams established demographic fan groups instead of regional. Teams like the rednecks, the hippies, the bikers, etc. (I don’t recall whether there were teams for various races, but probably). Then the fans would battle it out in the stands while the teams were playing on the field, and fan deaths/injuries would be reported along with the usual game statistics. It’s a while since I read it, and I don’t remember the title.
My neighbors, elderly long-time Redskins fans, drove to Phila. years ago for the Eagles/Redskins game wearing Redskins hats, etc. They were physically run out of the stadium in the first quarter. Psychos.
