When I was 17, I became a feminist campaigner because I wanted to fight for a future where women feeling safe and being heard were considered everyday norms.
I’m 61 now and still fighting as hard as ever for those basic rights, which remain infuriatingly beyond our reach.
The fact that, even today — especially today — I would find it incredibly difficult to advise a woman who has been raped to go and report it to the police breaks my heart.
My younger self would, rightly, be appalled. But I know that unless a woman fits the profile of the perfect rape victim — sober when it happened, conservatively dressed and assaulted by a stranger; ideally a masked marauder, who used additional violence, and isn’t going to stand in the dock looking handsome and plausible; and preferably with some witnesses or CCTV footage to back up her account — then reporting it is likely to lead to a situation that only compounds her feelings of helplessness and despair.
Social media is awash right now with people spouting righteous indignation as they insist the horrific allegations coming out about Russell Brand constitute trial by media.
‘How awful,’ they claim. ‘This poor man has been denied the chance of a fair trial. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?’
They argue that if these women were genuine victims they wouldn’t have waited for others to start speaking out before coming forward themselves.
Talk about missing the point. I wish they would stop for one second and consider why the women who claim they were raped, sexually assaulted and abused by Brand went to the Press instead of the police in the first place.
Why, they should ask themselves, is there such little faith in the justice system meant to act as

Russell Brand certainly talked dirty on the radio and I even heard his show on BBC Radio 2 because back then the music show about the 1960’s aired before his show came on.
I heard this stuff before from Howard Stern.
When does Howard Stern get treated like this? That’s right Stern worshipped the COVID Jabs unlike Brand.

The justice system is tremendously biased towards women already. Every court system. They are upset the ckurts don’t just give them everything they want without evidence.
This is all done to silence a voice that is saying things that are antithetical to the Establishment. It is only about free speech.
Until they arrest Joe Biden for his sexual assault on Tara Reade I am never buying this alligator tear garbage.
