The fasces symbol was used by ancient Rome and is symbolic of the collective power of government.

What is the proper definition of fascism? You'll find a cogent explanation here.

It's used in the House of Representatives.


It's used by the Senate. You'll see it at the bottom of the image.


It was used on the reverse side of the Mercury dime from 1916 to 1945.
