A lot of fish is raised in China, or raised here and sent to China for processing. If you saw the conditions, you wouldn't eat it. The article doesn't mention tilapia, but that is one of them.

I read that the tilapia farms are placed below the massive chicken coops so they only have to feed the chickens.

Never ate tilapia again after I read that.

Sorry, I love seafood, but I will not eat tilapia. To be polite, I don't eat it at all.

Doesn't Walmart get a lot of stuff from China? Look at the packaging. It may be tough to find, but I think it's written somewhere.

I didn’t want to say it, but, yes, stuff like that.

Florida farms tilapia, too, which is delicious... and the other day I saw a bag of whole scaled tilapia farmed in the Amazon. I have had the South American tilapia and it tastes great too.

But I avoid the Chinese tilapia, as it is often super-fishy and mushy. Apparently they don’t let the fish get very old before harvest, or else they can’t survive long enough in sewage to grow up, lol.

We eat fish from US waters, and NO tilapia!

Now I know why!

To me, tilapia tastes like swimming rat.

How would fish in the wild get grain to eat? That's not what fish eat.

Yes, I should have been clearer - I was talking about Chinese tilapia farms, not US ones.

A problem is disreputable importers relabel the cheap Chinese fish as Raised in the US or some other country less disgusting than China.

I make sure mine is from reputable fish farming outfits. China uses the feces of the Tilapia to mix with feed. Or so I have read. Not taking a chance.

Usually, Walmart gets theirs from Brazil. I’ll stick with wild caught Cod or Salmon. Sometimes Tilapia but not from China.

My idea of taking a chance is buying food from Walmart.

When I do buy Tilapia (not often) it’s not from Walmart. I use local grocers and check the labels and ask questions.

Package says “Product of China. Farm Raised”

That’s bad...right?
