House Republicans are getting "DESPERATE" ...

1) The Hitchhiker’s Guide To Where We Stand With the Speaker’s Election

House Republicans restart their process of trying to elect a House Speaker today after House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) dramatically dropped his name from consideration.

2) Scalise withdrew just 36 hours after he secured the formal Republican bid to be Speaker.

3) So Republicans are now looking at the man who lost the secret ballot to Scalise, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH). Jordan has not officially launched another bid - yet. But Fox was told he began making phone calls to members late last night.

4) Jordan may ultimately face the same problem Scalise encountered: a steep deficit reaching the magic number on the floor. But Republicans are willing to give Jordan a shot - considering their options are limited.

5) A sense of desparation is now setting in among House Republicans as we enter day 10 without a House Speaker and the House remains inoperative. The government is poised to shut down in a month and the Middle East is ablaze.

So, next person up. And that is Jordan.

6) Some Republicans said they would back Jordan no matter what, despite Scalise’s closed-door victory Wednesday. It is believed that Jordan may have more die-hard support than Scalise. Jordan’s advantage is that he does not hold a leadership post now.

7) But some Republicans hold grudges against Jordan. He may likely face the same problem as Scalise: a struggle to reach 217.

That said, if it’s clear Jordan can’t get the votes, Republicans may move on from him, too - although the next option is utterly murky.

8) Here’s what to expect today:

House Republicans meet at 10 am et in private. They will discuss rules and parameters for the next round of electing a Speaker.

9) Some Republicans would like to require the GOP nominee to get 217 in the conference in order to be the party nominee and go to the floor. Republicans tabled a similar proposal just Wednesday.

10) It is doubtful but not impossible that Republicans could go to the floor today and vote on Speaker - even if it were to fail. Such a scenario would not come until late afternoon or evening.

11) However, some conservatives blasted Scalise for wanting to go to the floor immediately earlier this week.

This process could continue throughout the weekend if not last additional days.

12) It is not out of the question that Republicans quickly find themselves in the same quandary as they did with Scalise. That’s why the scenario of trying to resurrect former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) remains in play.

13) Some Republicans want to temporarily empower Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-NC) on an interim basis.

Some have whispered about potentially making McHenry the new Speaker as well. And, since nothing else has worked, other scenarios are in play, too.

Yes, most GOP reps are moderates and would have been happy with Scalise. I like Jim Jordan but I don’t see him getting to 217. Eventually they will likely move on to Emmer or maybe Hern.

Didn’t the scalawags just pass a CR for the next 45 days? Hell, what’s the hurry then. Sit back and have a warm cognac and a cigar!

The only byproduct of hydrogen burning is water.

That amount of water created (a few drops) is insignificant compared to the 3/4ths of the planet covered in water.

And the hydrogen TO BURN comes from water in the first place.

The longer the house is not in session, the safer Americans will be. I don’t care if they NEVER elect another speaker.

Do not understand what the urgency and all of this fear is out. First off, no money is spent, secondly, other than to declare war on Hamas, there is not much for the house to do. They have plenty of time to pass budgets, etc. Seriously, what is the urgency?

Exactly.

Seriously, what is the urgency?

The only urgency seems to come from the media, who are still upset that their guy McCarthy got bounced.

rino establishment Republicans have done so much damage to TRUE Conservatives for decades.

It’s time for real conservatives to remain firm and cause the rinos to compromise.

Jordan for the win, and the block!!!

Not exactly. They tend to go with people who support whatever the donor class says to support and screw everyone else. That’s not being a moderate, that’s being corrupt.
