The US Navy has assembled one of the greatest concentrations of power in the Eastern Mediterranean in 40 years. Any assumption that the large and growing US naval force in the region is simply there as a demonstration force, unlikely to be used, was dispelled on October 19 when the destroyer USS Carney shot down cruise missiles and drones in the northern Red Sea. The USN said the munitions had been launched from Yemen and were potentially aimed at Israel.

C’mon! We had to hide the Biden family corruption in Ukraine.
I suspect these ships are off of Israel more as a deterrent than as an escalation. Just in case anyone in the neighborhood gets themselves an “idea” the US Navy is there to help them get rid of it.
It’s also a good opportunity for an exercise which the USN needs to do anyway.
The USAF is very quiet ...
Everything is all fun and games until the bad guys launch an Exocet or similar anti-ship missile. How’s biden going to respond when a hundred US sailors get killed and a ship lost?

Far better the USN should get rid of all their ships and just stay home where it’s safe, right?
Respectfully, I think that is the goal, here . . .
Forget trying to help her understand anything.
It’s roaring over Diego Garcia, Cypress and Aviano.
Good article, but I’m surprised that authors Admiral (rtd.) James G. Foggo III and Dr. Steven Wills conclude “Congress and the Defense Department must fund and make time for post-deployment training, rest, and repair.”
Earlier they mentioned the challenges of a 300 ship navy compared to 500 ship navies in prior years. But they don’t suggest increasing the number of ships, just funding better maintenance.
Their AC is still working and tee times still available.
Speaking of deterrence. Now that the Bataan ARG and its Marines have left the Persian Gulf, our only deterrence would be what we can muster from the bases we maintain in the Gulf. That’s certainly not enough considering our Persian Gulf allies could flip if Iran plays its cards right. My money is on the USS Vinson moving as quickly as it can to get to the Gulf. Imagine the shot the West would take if the Strait of Hormuz got NordStreamed. Nothing would benefit Russia more than precisely that happening,

I’ll take either. Just pay for it with the money we’ve been throwing away in Ukraine. The only thing holding up throwing $61Billion more good after bad is the speaker vacancy. What could we do with that $61B routed to Navy acquisition, maintenance and refurbishment?
Don’t forget to factor in opportunity costs. Opportunity for what, I have no idea.
The people behind biden’s plan for America:
1. Destroy domestic oil production................check
2. Destroy the economy............................check
3. Expend ammunition supplies.....................check
4. Demoralize American military with wokeness.....check
5. Flood country with illegal combatants..........check
6. And, according to this article, reduce naval readiness by over-deployment.
We were moaning a $10 trillion debt not long ago. How the heck did those bastards piss away $24 TRILLION? What have we got to show for it? Absolutely nothing but ruination and upcoming Venezuela.
Sounds like great training and the kids are going to love it. All they have do now is cancel a couple previously scheduled exercises.
Been mentioned many times in this context and remains theoretical until some wannabe player really launches one seriously at us.
Not convinced much risk of it happening. Not enough to sway action being taken.
Just who are our “Persian Gulf allies”, and what, exactly, do they do for us that is remotely comparable to the lives and treasure wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan?
