Are we here?

Posted on 10/31/2023 9:52:18 AM PDT by RoboticAspect

I'm a very pessimistic person lately about the general culture war. But it actually seems like there's a change in the air.

Could woke be on the verge of collapse? Elon said it happened, but I am getting damn sure we're at least at the beginning of the end.

A societal change seems to be happening swiftly.

Maybe I'm overblowing it, but I think we may be at a tipping point, on at least the woke thing of canceling someone for 20 year old race jokes or questioning Disney politics.

There’s something different going on now. Even Jim Cramer is saying something needs to happen.

It kind of seems like we’re at a period of the line of the left has collapsed, it’s time to move in.

Reality can only be ignored for so long. Eventually it reasserts itself.

Guaranteed at some point soon people will look back and go, what the hell was going on. Not politics or economics or anything. No Trump or Biden. Just a general realization that everyone went crazy and nearly collapsed society, just over mean tweets and stuff.

If Americans can do that, it’ll be something special.

I am reading a book called “The Fourth Turning” written over 25 years ago, and boy...is it ever disconcerting.

Basically, history runs in roughly 80 year cycles (called a “saeculum” by the Romans, who were aware of this cycle) with a 20 year equilibrating cycle before the next one begins. It is unsettling to read.

I wonder if race swapping Snow White and thinking about a black Hercules might’ve been a big final straw.

The Disney thing, I think, is a big sign. If they give it up, I’m pretty sure that’s the end. There are some executive things going on there now, Peltz and all, that might really matter.

This is the cycle in a nutshell:

Hard Times make Good Men
Good Men make Good Times
Good Times make Weak Men
Weak Men make Hard Times

Curious! Thanks for posting — I wasn’t aware of that book or the theory. Can you tell me if the turnings are cyclical (1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4, etc) or are they palindromic (1,2,3,4,3,2,1,2,3,4, etc)? My curiosity is getting the best of me here.

You just came aboard seven days ago. First thing you do is a leaping flipping vanity post. Not that anyone bothers to notice.

And it is very clear that we are here: Weak Men make Hard Times

Though I might add that Karens (feminists/liberal women) should also be mentioned. Their emotionally-driven nonsense has caused a lot of the mess we see today.

Given the fact that a sizeable portion of our population is pro-Hamas in the wake of the recent happenings in Israel, I would say that pessimism is warranted.

“This is the cycle in a nutshell:

Yep. What we’ve been experiencing the last several decades is the disease of “Affluenza” .

The symptoms are... you don’t appreciate how well you have it, what produced it and who produced it.

The good news is that the disease contains it’s own cure in that it destroys what you don’t appreciate, causing you to appreciate anew how well you had it, and motivating you to recreate it.

Only problem is the process can be painful.
