Amazon says it will roll out its biometric palm-recognition technology to its more than 500 Whole Foods Markets stores in the United States this year.

The technology, called “Amazon One,” lets registered users confirm their identity and pay for items by holding a hand over a scanning device. Users connect a payment method when signing up.

Amazon One is currently available in more than 200 Whole Foods stores. The technology debuted in 2020 at the original Amazon Go store in Seattle.

The company also offers Amazon One to third-parties. The technology is installed in 400 total locations in U.S., including stadiums, airport retailers, and restaurants.

Amazon reports more than 3 million uses of Amazon One. Amazon says it “will never share palm data with third parties, under any circumstance, including in response to government demands, unless we’re required to comply with a legally valid and binding order.”

Amazon bought Whole Foods Market for $13.7 billion in 2017.

We will avoid it as long as possible, but eventually, you won’t be able to exist or live your life without it.

Great, now the robbers will just cut off our hands, just in case.

If you want a driver's license or passport, that ship sailed years ago.

The Lord took me into the future and I was standing in front of a door to a beautiful residence with a pad for a palm next to it. I figured it was someone else’s house and I wasn’t trying it. Maybe I should have and see if I stayed. LOL.

i could care less what amazon/bezos/whole/foods does anymore ... everything they do makes it harder and harder for the regular shopper to checkout ... during covid, the idiots had a single, combined line for self-checkout and regular checkout, which made zero sense ... when we saw that, we just abandoned our cart ... later on, they quit taking cash at self checkout ... their prices are still outrageously higher than every other grocery store in town ... now this ... fuhgeddaboudit ...

“If you want a driver’s license or passport, that ship sailed years ago.”

It sure has sailed in California.

I recently turned 85 and had to renew my Cali Driver’s license at our local DMV.

Before my DMV visit, with an appointment, I had filled out a form to take my written test online. So, they had basically all of my personal data including a check and my SS#. We have lived at the same address since 1977 and had the same phone #>

That helped to skip the long lines at the DMV, and in about 5 minutes, I was directed to an all in one window.

At the window, a young DMV lady took my photo, cancelled my previous check, returned it,then got my credit card #, finally got my finger print and gave me a 5 line eye test.

Another employee with a tie and dress shirt said on my side of the window, said,”You hammered/nailed” the vision test.

Then, I was sent across the room to get my temporary license, and for my license, one more picture taken, supposedly for my new ordinary license.

The whole process took less than an hour.

Your post would have been perfect is you had just added one more line:

“After I left I could not find my car.”

How long will it be before someone comes up with counterfeited palms?
