Was listening to a long 4+ hour podcast today regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict during the 1948-1982 period (from the First Arab-Israeli War up through the Siege of Beirut and the Sabra/Shatila massacres during the Lebanese Civil War; not to spoil anything, but the whole Middle East is a messy place), and this brief episode mentioned was rather fascinating. To paraphrase:

Japanese Commies: Suicide attacks are a good thing, actually. (points to the kamikazes)

Yasser Arafat and the PLO: Well, suicide is forbidden by Islam...

Japanese Commies: Then let us demonstrate how a lack of care for one's life makes your terror more effective. (proceeds to shoot up an airport)

Would be an odd twist of history, if suicide attacks and suicide bombings becoming standard practice amongst Muslims can be traced to Japanese Reds deciding to teach Palestinian terrorists about the "kamikaze" pilots.
