Consensus at meeting: Remove Stephen Foster statue
Among the more two dozen people who spoke Wednesday evening before the city’s Art Commission Wednesday, most wanted the Stephen Foster statue along the Oakland stretch of Forbes Avenue to be taken down or moved somewhere less visible. But few speakers were as hostile as Billy Hileman.
“You should melt the metal part down and recoup a little bit of [money],” said the educator and veteran activist during the hour-long hearing. “And then maybe make gravel out of the pedestal.”
That drew laughter from a crowd of more than 60, but Mr. Hileman choked up moments later.
“Obviously I can’t speak for people of color,” said Mr. Hileman, who is white, “but I can speak for me. I’m tired of being a part of this.”

I was reading about Stephen Foster and decided to look up his name and came across this article from 2017. They did remove the statue which I’m sure has completely eliminated racism forever.

Xi Van Fleet, the woman who wrote Mao’s America: A Survivor’s Warning (2023) was interviewed and said the destruction of statues and any books or now web praise of enemies is part of the Chinese Communist methodology. When the Civil War broke out, Foster stood for the Union, not the Confederacy.
They should replace it with a statue that celebrates and embraces black culture. I suggest rapper Ice Spice. She was in a Dunkin Donuts commercial promoting a drink called Ice Spice Munchkin Crunch, after her song “Munch”. She looks like a high-class crack whore. Her songs are about “n*ggas” and genitalia and sex acts. She often twerks and fondles her crotch. If she’s good enough for Dunkin, she’s good enough for me, and certainly better than that old dead crackah Stephen Foster.
