The article you linked from 2015 accurately described the discontent in the US which led to Trump’s election the following year. It looks like a very similar situation now in 2023; but, of course, matters are far worse in the nation than 8 years ago.
Given a reasonably fair election next year, which is a matter of concern, Trump would win in a Reaganesque landslide.
