At one time Kowloon’s was the biggest Chinese restaurant in the country. Route 1 in Saugus was a great place to go eat. Hilltop Steak House, and another Chinese restaurant owned by relatives of the Kowloon’s people whose name escapes me. A bit north the Golden Banana and another “gentlemen’s club” whose name also escapes me.
My late father in law would buy steaks at Hill top!
Is that place still there? I remember going there about 30 years ago.
There also was the ship resturaunt. My first date with first spouse was there. We ate at Kowloon after visiting the justice of the peace
I miss that restaurant. But they took cash only because the owner was allegedly associated with the mob and used the place to launder money. But at one time, it was the highest grossing restaurant in the United States.
After high school proms, it was the place to take your date for a steak dinner. Mainly because they did not card. If you were 16 years old and ordered Heineken or a 7&7, they brought it right to your table even if you looked like Chachi from Happy Days. I do miss those innocent times.
