A 3-month-old baby boy was killed in his Alabama home by his family’s “pet wolf,” according to authorities who have launched a criminal probe.

The unidentified toddler died in the wild incident at a home in Chelsea on Thursday afternoon, Shelby County coroner Lina Evans confirmed to The Post.

“It appears that the wolf or wolf-dog – they kept it as a, quote, ‘pet’ – picked up the child that was down on the floor and started playing with it, and unfortunately killed the baby,” Evans said.

Why in the hell would you have a pet wolf?

And if you did, why would you let it play with the baby?

A tiny community near me has five wolf hybrids. They're all of pleasant
personalities and enjoy the vita-bones I occasionally hand out.

I knew a guy who kept pet wolves. This is illegal in Utah but he somehow got them certified as some dog breed which I don’t remember. They are not dogs and don’t act like dogs. Very disturbing to be around. The guy who had them was disturbing to be around also. Last I heard he was awaiting the apocalypse down in Hurricane, Utah.

Probably why you’d have a pit bull or three. Awesome bragging rights to show how bad-ass you are. In really, it just shows how reckless and stupid you are.

And as a side note, a relative of mine had a bit bull, for the reason mentioned above. This pit bull was sweet and gentle.

Until the day it attacked the UPS guy. Fortunately for my relative, the UPS guy accepted $500 to forget about the whole thing. My relative got rid of his pit bull. How, I don’t know. I didn’t ask.

Can’t blame the wolf but do fault the parents that let any large animal near their small children with close supervision.
The animal was doing what animals do, playing rough. Probably got excited and, well, this is the sad result.

Back in the late 80’s where I worked, a co-worker’s son, about 6 or 7 IIRC, was killed in his own yard by a neighbor’s Wolf/Dog hybrid.........................

A couple I knew in Denver had a dog / wolf hybrid. I didn’t find out until we were in the basement playing pool. I was on the side of the table, leaning down to make a shot when suddenly their “pet” walked up to the other side of the table, rested his head on the bumper rail, and started staring at me. It was a bit disconcerting to say the least.

Wolf-dogs are legal in Tennessee as long as they are a minimum of 5% domestic dog. That means that if they are 95% wolf, they are legal. A family near me raised them and they got out. Two were found on my farm. They weren’t aggressive to us but I’m glad they found them.

Just about ten years ago, I saw a man walking two giant black timber wolves in old downtown Littleton (a suberb of Denver). I thought I was seeing things. A week later, I ran into the same guy at a restaurant, with the wolves on the patio. I just had to go meet him, and he let me pet them. They were enormous, and beautiful...but their teeth were frightening. I can see how that poor baby wouldn’t take much of that.

If you are a wildlife specialist, because a wolf is not a dog, you might. But not around children.

Not ever around children. But I would bet this was not a wolf, possibly an Alaskan Malamute crossed with something else.
