An appeals court upheld the disorderly conduct convictions Friday of actor Jussie Smollett, who was accused of staging a racist, homophobic attack against himself in 2019 and then lying about it to Chicago police.
Smollett, who appeared in the TV show “Empire,” challenged the role of a special prosecutor, jury selection, evidence and many other aspects of the case. But all were turned aside in a 2-1 opinion from the Illinois Appellate Court.
Smollett had reported to police that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack by two men wearing ski masks. The manhunt for the attackers soon turned into an investigation of Smollett himself, leading to his arrest on charges he had orchestrated the attack.
Authorities said he paid two men whom he knew from work on “Empire.”
A jury convicted Smollett in 2021 on five felony counts of disorderly conduct, a charge that can be filed in Illinois when a person lies to police.
He now will have to finish a 150-day stint in jail that was part of his sentence. Smollett spent just six days in jail while his appeal was pending.

For those who don’t remember, it was about 2 am with wind and 0-degree temperatures in the liberal part of town when the 2 Trump supporters wearing red Trump baseball caps in that weather, at 2 am spotted the bundled-up black guy from the TV show that no Trump supporter had ever seen and attacked him with the bleach they were carrying in case a 2 am situation like this ever arose.
Where was Kanye?
I still say he will never see the inside of a jail.
It will do him good, he'll like his friends in there.
A memory refresher .... it was about 2 am with wind and 0-degree temperatures in the liberal part of town when the 2 Trump supporters wearing red Trump baseball cap, spotted the bundled-up Smollett holding a Subway tuna sub.....supposedly recognizing him from a TV show that no Trump supporter in his right mind would have ever seen.
The two musclemen attacked Smollett with a handy container of bleach they were carrying “just in case” a 2 am situation like this ever arose.
And, after the strongarm attack by the two big guys, wonder of wonders, Smollett emerged, unscathed.....with his tuna sub firmly in his hand, ready to eat once he got home......after calling the cops.
Still needs to be prosecuted for mail fraud..
The staging of the hate crime could be excused. The fact that it was executed so stupidly is what’s unforgivable.
Time to put the girlyman in prison. Hopefully they remove everything that can be made to look like a noose from his cell.
And, not to forget, Cameltoe called Jacob Blake a hero, for getting shot, after he pulled a knife on cops and fought with them, when they tried to arrest him on a sexual assault warrant and for violating a restraining order.
At least they didn’t refer to him as the “star” of the tv show. I though everyone was a “star”.
