Taylor Swift is telling me a story, and when Taylor Swift tells you a story, you listen, because you know it’s going to be good—not only because she’s had an extraordinary life, but because she’s an extraordinary storyteller. This one is about a time she got her heart broken, although not in the way you might expect. She was 17, she says, and she had booked the biggest opportunity of her life so far—a highly coveted slot opening for country superstar Kenny Chesney on tour. “This was going to change my career,” she remembers. “I was so excited.” But a couple weeks later, Swift arrived home to find her mother Andrea sitting on the front steps of their house. “She was weeping,” Swift says. “Her head was in her hands as if there had been a family emergency.” Through sobs, Andrea told her daughter that Chesney’s tour had been sponsored by a beer company. Taylor was too young to join. “I was devastated,” Swift says. But some months later, at Swift’s 18th birthday party, she saw Chesney’s promoter. He handed her a card from Chesney that read, as Swift recalls, “I’m sorry that you couldn’t come on the tour, so I wanted to make it up to you.” With the note was a check. “It was for more money than I’d ever seen in my life,” Swift says. “I was able to pay my band bonuses. I was able to pay for my tour buses. I was able to fuel my dreams.” Photograph by Inez and Vinoodh for TIME Listening to Swift share this, on a clear fall afternoon in her New York City apartment, I’m struck by how satisfying the story is.

She plugs Biden at every appearance. Bought & paid for.
Yep. She used to be one of the few that didn’t delve into politics, but once she did the dam broke and she won’t shut up. So now of course, all the usual suspects love her even more.
Who was the runner up? Dylan Mulvaney?
Just when you think Time can’t become more irrelevant.
Except that "pop culture" has become so dispersed as to neither be "popular" nor "culture".
Every song is “look what you did to me”. Incredibly puerile.
How can ‘trite’ be elevated to ‘Person of the year’??
Imagine the money that goes into social media and whatnot to drive her to the front page on a recurring basis. Now imagine the other things that are being pushed and programmed into the population.
It all depends on perspective. I am clearly not in her demographic.
But I would take Taylor Swifts’ impact over Kanye’s or the Kardashian’s any day of the week.
Her impact on that business is indisputable.
Can anyone tell me what “significant impact” she’s had on anything except her own bank account?
Any cultural impact? Any cultural improvements?
Anyone?
Jeez, just look at that murders row of leftist a-holes on that list next to her on that cover
When Hollywood was on strike, she filmed her concert for $5 million dollars and circumvented the studio’s distribution system. She went straight to the theater companies, Regal cinemas, and AMC. Turning a $30 plus million profit. Independent film companies now see a way of releasing their movies without having to go through the traditional distribution process. The money laundering scam where Hollywood studio’s block access to the theater companies has been exposed. For that alone I give Taylor Swift a thumbs up.
“You’ve said it better than I could. I never understood the excitement over Madonna either. For kicks, I looked up this woman singing anything and it’s nothing but a bunch of noise IMO.”
Indeed. I determined years ago that Madonna couldn’t sing, couldn’t dance and couldn’t act.
Yet the lemmings with skulls full of mush will insist otherwise. The power of the fascist media serving us garbage is disturbing.
Who else could it have been? Biden, Harris, Trump, Zelensky, Musk, Thunberg? They’ve all already won. Who else is there? Netanyahu, Hamas, Matt Gaetz?
Maybe one of those stupid group “persons”? Taylor Swift also already won in one of those groups — “The [all-female] Silence Breakers” (2017).
“”Madonna couldn’t sing, couldn’t dance and couldn’t act.””
Would you believe she was in “A League of Their Own” and did a pretty credible job - amazing!!! I didn’t want to say she could act but I couldn’t deny it!
