Ron DeSantis Slams CFP, Wants to Sue Over Florida State Snub
ESPN ^

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis took the College Football Playoff committee to task Tuesday, slamming its decision to exclude the undefeated Florida State football team from the four-team playoff.

DeSantis, speaking at a news conference to detail his proposed $114.4 billion budget for Florida, said he is asking for $1 million to let Florida State sue the CFP committee even though the championship will be decided months before a budget is approved. The semifinals are set for Jan. 1, with the championship game to be played Jan. 8.

"My first-grader, my fifth-grader and my preschooler ... they are all Noles and they are big-time fans and they do the tomahawk chop and they were not happy," DeSantis said. "We are going to set aside $1 million and let the chips fall where they may." DeSantis' recommendation is simply a suggestion to the Florida Legislature, which will begin its annual session next month. Once the Legislature agrees on a spending plan, DeSantis will have power to veto individual items.

I agree Florida State should have gotten in. I don’t think a law suit is going anywhere.

This isn’t the first time an undefeated team didn’t get into the playoffs, they need to fix the rules and bias that allows skipping the top teams.

Hard to believe that a serious candidate for President is even talking about using government money to start law suits over college football. Has Joe Biden been providing pointers on how to speak in public?

I don’t know anything about the structure of college football, or how these playoff seedings are set up.

But I would question if there are really any grounds for a lawsuit. What laws were alleged to be broken, when these football playoff seedings are set up?

KEEP GOVERNMENT OUT OF SPORTS!!!

DeSantis is certainly on the wrong side of the argument to keep government to within its constitutional limits.

CFP expanding to 12 teams next year, but perhaps the 13th placed team can sue?

‘I agree Florida State should have gotten in.’

nope. the FSU team as it is today would have no chance of beating the other four teams, inluding Bama.

their performance against L’Ville the other night was brutal...inevitable, whn you lose one of the premier QB’s in the country in mid season...

Well, games seem to be more important to Americans than election integrity.

All indications are that FSU was left out because they’re down to their third-string QB.

The selection committee for the NCAA football playoffs is primarily interested in having three competitive games in the semifinals and championship, so they really do have an incentive to pick the top four teams even if there’s another one out there that is undefeated.

‘Trump goaded him into this’

really? Trump commented on the FSU situation the day after Desantis weighed in on it...kind of hard to goad someone into doing something when they’ve already done it...

but if it makes you feel good to post BS, have at it...

Trump initially commented on the FSU situation within hours of the selection announcement. He claimed that FSU was left out because nobody likes DeSantis. LOL.

Next year there will be more teams in the playoff, 12 instead of 4. That’s a good thing. This year it was pretty clear that some good team(s) would miss out. Georgia won the championship the last two years and lost one game which was close. Had it made into the playoffs, it might have won. (Full disclosure, I’m an Alabama fan.)

Some conferences are tougher than others. So perhaps winning your conference shouldn’t guarantee entry into a 4-team playoff. It should guarantee entry into a 12-game playoff.

Is the SEC the strongest conference? Numbers should help. How have SEC teams fared (wins vs. losses) when playing out of conference? What are the numbers for other conferences?

DeSantis suing over this? That’s the kind of talk I might expect to hear from Gavin Newsom.

People that can’t stand Alabama or back Michigan are behind it. They scream just like the Democrats do when they don’t get their way.

Last year Bama got left out. Ranked fifth, and that’s where they belonged. The squealers got two Big Ten entries, Michigan and Ohio State, and last year’s Florida State, TCU, was also let in and they lost 65-7, costing ESPN a fortune in ratings.

FSU lost their qb and has no offense. The word to Alabama after their early loss was ‘win out and beat the two time champs coming off their third straight undefeated regular season.” They did it, and the lib media still squeals to let FSU in.
