Lousy cars after about 1971, great music (within certain genres), horrible fashion, Farrah Fawcett posters, high interest rates, real estate values spiking (especially where I lived in the South Bay Area), Day on the Green concerts, KOME 98.5 playing whatever the heck they wanted.

We still had a functioning roller rink nearby, so that was good for an occasional diversion, too. Except for the disco music they insisted on playing. We were there to skate, not dance.

Yes, I was in high school in the 70s. We even once had a school assembly where the cheer squad did a dance routine to “Roundabout” by Yes. What are the chances of that happening today?

We recovered from the Carter years. AND we managed to avoid the dreaded ice age that was going to kill us all.

I do not see us recovering from the disastrous O’Biden years. Not after every bureaucrat is an American hating marxist and the nation has been over run by an invited invasion of violent America hating illegal aliens

Does everyone remember the gas station restrictions and of what day you were allowed go?

Remember the gas lines ON YOUR DAY?

Dang OPEC and our own unwillingness to drill.

Well, I couldn't tell Pell's first two years from Dickey's last two years.

I was just watching a YouTube last night of an episode of American Bandstand circa 1976.

Holy cripes. Yet I looked like this as well. Bell bottoms and platform shoes.

And no. The 70's were the best.

Bell bottoms fell out of fashion for straight leg blue jeans, rock and roll died spawning punk rock and new wave, and long hair gave way to short hair.

It’s kind of asinine to generalize one particular 10-year period beginning with year xxx0 and ending with year xxx9 is “better” than some other 10-year period. There are good things and bad things happening all the time, everywhere and to everyone. It’s always a mixed bag. Babies are being born. People are dying. Money is being made. Money is being lost. People are loving each other. People are hating each other. Good movies are being made. Bad movies are being made. Great music is being made. Terrible music is being made.

I discovered females, drugs, and beer in 1970’s. Pretty damn good decade.

In 1975 ABBA were still seen as somewhat of an exotic Swedish import. They had hit the top 10 with “Waterloo” and followed it with the minor hit “Honey, Honey.” ABBA took the American Bandstand stage to perform “SOS.” Despite astonishingly bad clothing choices, ABBA remains a gold standard for pop music. These were the happy days for the group when Bjorn and Agnetha were married and Benny was engaged to Anni-Frid.

Man I hated ABBA

If you didn’t grow up in the 70s, watching “Dazed and Confused” is the closest thing to experiencing it.

Yes! It's like a documentary of my high school!

IMO. the 1970s brought only one slice of goodness; each of my 4 sons was born in that decade. I see the 1970s as marking the destruction of the family when feminism convinced so many people that it was a good idea for mothers to leave their precious children in the care of strangers in order to pursue work outside the home.

Find a good car manufactured between 1972-79. Pinto, Vega, Pacer, Aspen, etc. No horsepower with railroad tie bumpers.

Bell bottoms, leisure suits, white leather belts and shoes and unbuttoned patterned polyester shirts.

Avocado and gold appliances. Orange and gold shag carpeting.

EPA and Department of Education established.

Inflation.

Yeah, it was great.

I was young and resilient in the 70’s. Best thing was I missed Vietnam. Worst was Jimmie Carter, disco and how cocaine destroyed lives.

The whole 21st century is the worst. Very unstable.

The 70’s still had a modcum of civility.

The best line from that movie?

I actually graduated high school in 1976. In San Antonio, not Austin. It's crazy how similar my life was to that movie.. "It'd be a whole lot cooler if you did."
